Habitat amount–fragmentation interactions drive Canada Warbler dynamics across spatial scales

open access: yesAvian Conservation and Ecology
The Canada Warbler ( Cardellina canadensis ) is a long-distance neotropical migrant that has experienced significant population declines across its range and is listed as threatened in Canada.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Spatial clustering method for geographic data

open access: yes, 2002
In the process of visualizing quantitative spatial data, it is necessary to classify attribute values into some class divisions. In a previous paper, the author proposed a classification method for minimizing the loss of information contained in ...

Global Soil Fauna Metacommunity Patterns: The Roles of Spatial Extent and Environmental Heterogeneity

open access: yesDiversity
A central debate in metacommunity theory concerns how the relative importance of ecological processes varies with spatial scale. We addressed this by integrating global soil fauna metacommunity datasets to analyze the effects of spatial extent (the ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Spatial epidemiology of human schistosomiasis in Africa: risk models, transmission dynamics and control. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper reviews recent studies on the spatial epidemiology of human schistosomiasis in Africa. The integrated use of geographical information systems, remote sensing and geostatistics has provided new insights into the ecology and epidemiology of ...

A Review of Progress in Heat Health Risk Assessment Across Multiple Spatial Scales

open access: yesBuildings
With global warming and the increasing frequency of extreme heat events, heat health risk assessment (HHRA) has become a critical topic in climate change studies.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Disentangling the effect of the spatial scale and species spatial pattern on the abundance–suitability relationship

open access: yes
Knowledge about species abundance across broad spatial areas is crucial for unraveling ecological processes. Yet, abundance estimation often demands extensive sampling effort associated with logistical challenges.
