Spatial and temporal variations in vector fields

open access: yesOptics Express, 2011
We introduce a new metric to characterise spatial variations occurring in a time varying vector field, and we derive a rotationally invariant formula that quantifies temporal fluctuations within a consistent framework. So as to highlight the physics behind these metrics, both are derived from a well-known experiment in polarimetry.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Reproductive performance links to fine-scale spatial patterns of female grey seal relatedness

open access: yes, 2001
Fine–scale spatial patterns of female relatedness throughout the established grey seal breeding colony of North Rona, Scotland, were investigated by accurate mapping and spatially explicit analyses of a large sample (n=262) of mothers using variation at ...

Diet and trophic guilds of fish assemblages in two streams with different anthropic impacts in the northwest of Paraná, Brazil

open access: yesZoologia (Curitiba), 2012
In the present study, we describe the diets of the fish assemblages in two streams in the Maringá region of Paraná that are under the influence of different anthropic impacts.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

A METHODOLOGY FOR EVALUATING THE TEMPORAL STABILITY OF SPATIAL PATTERNS OF VINEYARD VARIATION

open access: yes, 2011
: Vineyards vary substantially in the quantity and quality of grapes they produce. The study was undertaken in a commercial “Semidano” vineyard block (0.6 ha) in the municipality of Mogoro (Sardinia isle, Italy) during the vintages of 2008, 2009 and ...

Spatial variation features description of soil available P, K, Mg and soil pH by proportional effect

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2006
This paper investigates the proportional effect of selected soil properties - low spatial variation changes are related to their local magnitudes (here standard deviation vs. mean).

Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

Smooth-car mixed models for spatial count data [PDF]

open access: yes
Penalized splines (P-splines) and individual random effects are used for the analysis of spatial count data. P-splines are represented as mixed models to give a unified approach to the model estimation procedure.

Spatial variation of Anopheles-transmitted Wuchereria bancrofti and Plasmodium falciparum infection densities in Papua New Guinea. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The spatial variation of Wuchereria bancrofti and Plasmodium falciparum infection densities was measured in a rural area of Papua New Guinea where they share anopheline vectors. The spatial correlation of W.
