COVID-19-Related and general racial discrimination and mental health in Asian Americans

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background Although reports indicate Asian Americans (AA) experienced racial discrimination during the COVID-19 pandemic, there exists a research gap that adequately details the nature and influence of racial discrimination on the mental health of AAs ...

YAP1::TFE3 mediates endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal plasticity in epithelioid hemangioendothelioma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The YAP1::TFE3 fusion protein drives endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndMT) plasticity, resulting in the loss of endothelial characteristics and gain of mesenchymal‐like properties, including resistance to anoikis, increased migratory capacity, and loss of contact growth inhibition in endothelial cells.

Gut microbiota diversity is prognostic in metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this exploratory study, we investigated the relationship between the gut microbiota and outcome in patients with metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer, treated in a randomized clinical trial with chemotherapy alone or chemotherapy in combination with immune checkpoint blockade.

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Surgical myectomy might inhibit ascending aortic dilation in obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: a serial cardiac magnetic resonance study

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery
Background The impact of septal myectomy on the progression of ascending aortic (AAo) dilation in patients with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HOCM) remains uncertain. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between septal myectomy and

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Myocardial bridging in obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: a risk factor for myocardial fibrosis

open access: yesBMC Medicine
Background Myocardial bridging (MB) is common in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). There are sparse data on the impact of MB on myocardial fibrosis in HCM.

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

A Novel Nomogram for Predicting Warfarin-Related Bleeding: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesClinical and Applied Thrombosis/Hemostasis
Warfarin is a widely used anticoagulant, and bleeding complications are the main reason why patients discontinue the drug. Currently, there is no nomogram model for warfarin-associated bleeding risk. The aim of this study was to develop a risk-prediction
