SPECIAL IS AS SPECIAL DOES

open access: yesRBM: A Journal of Rare Books, Manuscripts, and Cultural Heritage, 2000
Nothing is very special in the least about special collections unless they are made meaningful. The meaning derives from the interaction of the artifact and the individual mind and heart; Rachel Howarth, in a companion piece to this one, has provided many examples of such encounters.

Special reductive groups over an arbitrary field [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
A linear algebraic group G defined over a field k is called special if every G-torsor over every field extension of k is trivial. In 1958 Grothendieck classified special groups in the case where the base field is algebraically closed. In this paper we describe the derived subgroup and the coradical of a special reductive group over an arbitrary field k.

Lectures on special Lagrangian geometry [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2001
We introduce special Lagrangian submanifolds in C^m and in (almost) Calabi-Yau manifolds, and survey recent results on singularities of special Lagrangian submanifolds, and their application to the SYZ Conjecture. The paper is aimed at graduate students in Geometry, String Theorists, and others wishing to learn the subject. Special Lagrangian m-folds
