RESULTS OF OFF-PUMP MYOCARDIAL REVASCULARIZATION IN HIGH-RISK PATIENTS WITH EUROSCORE>5
With the wide spread in the last two decades of the technology of performing myocardial revascularization off-pump, acquires a great scientific and practical significance a question of expanding indications to these operations on patients of high ...

POSSIBLE PREDICTORS OF ATRIAL FIBRILLATION RECURRENCE IN LONG-TERM PROPHYLACTIC PROPAFENONE THERAPY
Aim. To identify possible predictors of atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence in 6-month prophylactic propafenone therapy. Material and methods. Patients (n=63; aged 52.2±12.6 years; 25.4% women) with frequent AF recurrences who restored sinus rhythm with ...

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Specialisms in the Special Constabulary [PDF]
Special Constables undertaking more specialised policing roles, serving in specialist teams and developing specialist skill-sets, is not an entirely new phenomenon. There has however been significant growth over recent years in the scale and breadth of such ‘specialist’ Special Constabulary roles. This represents an important development in the growing

Sub-specialization or Super-specialization in Surgery? [PDF]
A special centre for prosthetic hip replacement set up 10 years ago has been successful in its primary objectives, producing high quality work at low cost and stimulating research. The project has not yet been successful in achieving a permanent staffing structure, but this is the effect of certain British ideologies in surgical training, with the ...

Why human connection is the true metric of research success
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Nothing is very special in the least about special collections unless they are made meaningful. The meaning derives from the interaction of the artifact and the individual mind and heart; Rachel Howarth, in a companion piece to this one, has provided many examples of such encounters.

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.
