Transparent, Non-local, Species-selective Transport in an Optical Superlattice Containing Two Interacting Atom Species [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. A 83, 033623 (2011), 2011
In an optical superlattice of triple wells, containing two mutually interacting atom species in adjacent wells, we show that one species can be transported through the positions of the other species, yet avoiding significant overlap and direct interaction.

Making tau amyloid models in vitro: a crucial and underestimated challenge

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review highlights the challenges of producing in vitro amyloid assemblies of the tau protein. We review how accurately the existing protocols mimic tau deposits found in the brain of patients affected with tauopathies. We discuss the important properties that should be considered when forming amyloids and the benchmarks that should be used to ...

Violet buiswier - Neosiphonia harveyi.

UAV telephotography elucidates floristic variability and beta diversity of island cliffs under grazing interventions

open access: yesScientific Reports
Cliffs contain one of the least known plant communities, which has been overlooked in biodiversity assessments due to the inherent inaccessibility.

Unraveling Mycobacterium tuberculosis acid resistance and pH homeostasis mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mycobacterium tuberculosis exhibits a remarkable resilience to acid stress. In this Review, we discuss some of the molecular mechanisms and metabolic pathways used by the tubercle bacilli to adapt and resist host‐mediated acid stress. Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is a successful pathogen that has developed a variety of strategies to survive and ...

Invasive Alien Species, Agricultural Development and the "Aid Trade" [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Note on the global phenomena of invasive alien species of plants, animals, and micro organisms transplanted intentionally or unintentionally into non native habitats, where their impacts on the environment, agricultural production, health, and economies ...

Genome skimming herbarium specimens for DNA barcoding and phylogenomics

open access: yesPlant Methods, 2018
Background The world’s herbaria contain millions of specimens, collected and named by thousands of researchers, over hundreds of years. However, this treasure has remained largely inaccessible to genetic studies, because of both generally limited success

Genera and Species [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1920
WHEN Linne introduced the practice of giving a generic and specific name to each living organism he probably did not anticipate that the number of names required would run into millions, and with the multiplication of genera and species now encouraged by naturalists some other system of distinction seems desirable.

Unconventional mRNA processing and degradation pathways for the polycistronic yrzI (spyTA) mRNA in Bacillus subtilis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The S1025 peptide is the major antidote to the YrzI toxin, which we renamed here as SpyT (Small Peptide YrzI Toxin) and SpyA (Small Peptide YrzI Antitoxin) (1). Degradation of the toxin–antitoxin spyTA mRNA, either by a translation‐dependent cleavage by the endoribonuclease Rae1 (2) or by direct attack by 3′‐exoribonucleases (3), also contributes to ...

Brede brakwaterpissebed - Synidotea laticauda.
