Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Species abundance dynamics under neutral assumptions: a Bayesian approach to the controversy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
1. Hubbell's 'Unified Neutral Theory of Biodiversity and Biogeography' (UNTB) has generated much controversy about both the realism of its assumptions and how well it describes the species abundance dynamics in real communities. 2. We fit a discrete-time

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Spatial ratios of native and alien species of vascular plants in forests in the southwest of Kyiv and the adjacent areas

open access: yesUkrainian Botanical Journal
Using the case of isolated oak-hornbeam forests in the green zone of the Kyiv Urban Area, spatial ratios of native and alien species of vascular plants were determined.

Effect of strip cropping of sugar beet-alfalfa on population density of the sugar beet weevil, Lixus incanescens (Col.: Curculionidae) and species diversity of its natural enemies [PDF]

open access: yesنامه انجمن حشره‌شناسی ایران, 2014
The sugar beet weevil, Lixus incanescens Boheman, is an important insect pest of sugar beet, Beta vulgaris L., in many parts of Iran. Strip cropping of sugar beet and alfalfa, Medicago sativa L., is a suitable strategy for improving the effectiveness of ...

The land snail fauna of Batu Kudik, isolated limestone outcrop near Simunjan, Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo (Mollusca, Gastropoda) [PDF]

open access: yesBiodiversity Data Journal
The present study provides a checklist of land snails collected from Batu Kudik, a small and isolated limestone outcrop in Simunjan, Sarawak. A total of 24 species of land snails, representing 18 genera and 14 families were recorded, including one newly ...

Estimating relative abundance of tree species in tropical rainforest using remotely sensed data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Mixed pixel occurrence in remote sensing imagery is a main source of problems in classifying ground features, especially when dealing with complex ecosystems such as tropical rainforest areas due to its high diversity of tree species. Pure pixel composed

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Root Fungal Endophyte Communities Differ Among Plant Functional Groups in an Alpine Meadow

open access: yesBiology
Disparities in root fungal endophyte (RFE) communities are well documented among plant species, yet differences among plant functional groups (PFGs) remain unclear.
