Full Band Spectra Analysis of Gait Acceleration Signals for Peripheral Arterial Disease Patients

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2018
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is an artherosclerotic occlusive disorder of distal arteries, which can give rise to the intermittent claudication (IC) phenomenon, i.e., limb pain and necessity to stop.

Twinkling pulsar wind nebulae in the synchrotron cut-off regime and the gamma-ray flares in the Crab Nebula

open access: yes, 2011
Synchrotron radiation of ultra-relativistic particles accelerated in a pulsar wind nebula may dominate its spectrum up to gamma-ray energies. Because of the short cooling time of the gamma-ray emitting electrons, the gamma-ray emission zone is in the ...

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Micropleated Nanofibrous Filters for High‐Efficiency Submicron Aerosol Filtration: A Comparative Study with Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Gas Mask Filters

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents micropleated filters manufactured by needleless electrospinning. Nanofibers are deposited onto uniaxially pre‐stretched substrates that contract upon release, forming densely packed micropleats. This architecture increases effective surface area without enlarging the filter size, achieving quality factors comparable to those of ...

Dynamic response and damage character of road embankment under strong earthquake

open access: yesInternational Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks, 2018
Dynamic response of road embankment under strong earthquake was explored by site investigation, shaking table tests, and discrete element method simulations, which shows that the distribution of responded accelerations strongly depends on the amplitude ...

A Positron Lifetime Study of Cooling and Natural Aging of Solutionized Aluminum Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The process during cooling of Al–Mg and Al–Mg–Si alloys from the solutionizing temperature down to 20 °C is interrupted. These states are analyzed with positron lifetime spectroscopy to trace the processes during cooling. In different temperature ranges, two stages of vacancy loss and solute clustering are identified.

Some Experiences of Improving the Speed of Numerical Navier-Stokes Solver Using CUDA

open access: yesJournal of Algorithms & Computational Technology, 2014
In this paper, the Graphics Processor Unit (GPU) is adopted to accelerate the codes of solving incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with two fully different numerical schemes: spectral method and finite difference method. Compared with the codes on CPU,

Challenges during Flash Lamp Annealing of Aerosol‐Deposited Barium Titanate Films

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Aerosol deposition is used to rapidly deposit barium titanate films with thicknesses ranging from 2 to 16 μm at room temperature, eliminating the need for further densification. However, to recover the electromechanical properties, annealing is required, which limits the usage of temperature‐sensitive substrates.

A comparative study of two models for the seismic analysis of buildings

open access: yesIngeniería e Investigación, 2012
This paper presents a model for the seismic analysis of buildings, taking two lumped masses at each level in a structure’s free nodes and comparing them to the traditional model which considers lumped masses per level, i.e., a mass for each floor of the ...
