Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

All-optical field-free three-dimensional orientation of asymmetric-top molecules
Alignment and orientation of the molecules allows studying the photon-molecule interactions in greater detail. Here the authors demonstrate the three-dimensional orientation of SO2 molecules in using COLTRIMS and orthogonally polarized laser pulses but ...

A NMR guided approach for CsrA–RNA crystallization
Structure determination of protein–nucleic acid complexes remains a challenging task. Here we present a simple method for generating crystals of a CsrA–nucleic acid complex, guided entirely by results from nuclear magnetic resonances spectroscopy (NMR ...

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

Nanoconstructions on the base of double-stranded DNA molecules and their optical properties
Experimental results have been presented on studying optical properties of nanoconstructions formed of orientationally ordered neighbouring double-stranded DNA molecules in the structure of their liquid-crystalline phases and dispersion particles of ...

Superresolution concentration measurement realized by sub-shot-noise absorption spectroscopy
Here, the authors use entangled photon pairs as the light source for absorption spectroscopy and demonstrate sub-shot-noise spectra in the entire visible wavelength region.

Transmission Near-Infrared (NIR) and Photon Time-of-Flight (PTOF) Spectroscopy in a Comparative Analysis of Pharmaceuticals. [PDF]
We present a comprehensive study of the application of photon time-of-flight spectroscopy (PTOFS) in the wavelength range 1050– 1350 nm as a spectroscopic technique for the evaluation of the chemical composition and structural properties of ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Encoding terahertz holographic bits with a computer-generated 3D-printed phase plate
A sub-terahertz holographic image of a two-dimensional 576-bit data code is produced using a diffractive phase-plate element. The phase plate was designed using a modified Gerchberg-Saxton iterative algorithm to encode a focused image of the data code ...
