The Effect of Auditory Perceptual Training by Online Computer Software on English Pronunciation

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings
Pronunciation is crucial to L2 learning. However, achieving speech proficiency is difficult. Class time constraints make demonstration–imitation pronunciation teaching methods less effective, even after repeated practice.

The role of lexical-semantic neighborhood in object naming: implications for models of lexical access

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2011
The role of lexical-semantic neighborhood is relevant to models of lexical access. Recently it has been claimed that the size of the cohort of activated competitors affects ease of lexical selection in word production as well as the effect of ...

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Variability in fricative production of young people with Down's syndrome : an EPG analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Speech production in Down's syndrome is highly variable, with particular problems arising from complex articulations such as fricatives. In this paper, EPG analysis is used to study the variation in the production of the fricatives /s/ and /sh/ in 6 ...

The role of grammatical category information in spoken word retrieval

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2011
We investigated the role of lexical syntactic information such as grammatical gender and category in spoken word retrieval processes by using a blocking paradigm in picture and written word naming experiments.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Investigation of Auditory-Guided Speech Production while Learning Unfamiliar Speech Sounds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
During the learning process, learners perceive the difference between a target sound and their produced sound, and manipulate speech organs to reduce the difference.

Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

In-quiet and Lombard audiovisual speech

open access: yes, 2006
This experiment examined whether the visual speech enhancement in the intelligibility of degraded acoustic speech is greater when the speech signals were recorded in noise compared to when they were recorded in quiet.
