Induction of sperm abnormalities in mice by norfloxacin
Mutation Research Letters, 1991Norfloxacin was tested in the mouse sperm morphology test. Data obtained suggest that norfloxacin may have 2 different effects on sperm development: a stimulating effect on spermatogenesis and a possible mutagenic effect that results in an increase in sperm abnormalities. The first effect might be caused by a hormonal action.

Chromosome Abnormalities in Human Sperm
1985The ability to analyze human sperm chromosome complements after penetration of zona pellucida-free hamster eggs provides the first opportunity to study the frequency and type of chromosomal abnormalities in human gametes. Two large-scale studies have provided information on normal men.

Induction of sperm abnormalities in mice by quercetin
Environmental Mutagenesis, 1987AbstractSperm abnormalities in mice induced by IP injection of quercetin at total cumulative doses of 16, 32, 80, and 160 mg/kg b. wt. administered fractionally on 5 successive days were quantitated by assessing the percent of sperm with abnormal heads or tails. Five weeks after the final injection a maximum of 14.8% abnormal sperm were observed with a

The aetiology of sperm protamine abnormalities and their potential impact on the sperm epigenome
International Journal of Andrology, 2008SummaryDuring the elongating spermatid stage of spermatogenesis, there is a step‐wise replacement of nuclear histones with protamines 1 and 2. In fertile men, the ratio of protamine 1/protamine 2 (P1/P2) is within the narrow range of 0.8–1.2. Ratios above or below that range are associated with infertility, exhibiting a wide range of defects including ...

Chromosome abnormalities in sperm of individuals with constitutional sex chromosomal abnormalities
Cytogenetic and Genome Research, 2005The most common type of karyotype abnormality detected in infertile subjects is represented by Klinefelter’s syndrome, and the most frequent non-chromosomal alteration is represented by Y chromosome long arm microdeletions. Here we report our experience and a review of the literature on sperm sex chromosome aneuploidies in these two conditions.

Bull Sperm Abnormalities in Practice
In this chapter we discuss spermatozoal abnormalities which are associated with reduced bull fertility in practice as assessed by published case studies or research experiments. Each abnormality follows the standardized form found in Chap. 9 . An initial summary of the abnormality is given including the suggested tolerated threshold for the abnormalityAlbert, Barth +4 more

A Rare Sperm Abnormality: ‘Corkscrew-sperms’ associated with Sterility in Bulls
Nature, 1959Williams and Savage1 introduced a semen examination method for the evaluation of the seminal micropathology in bulls, the results of which in the hands of the experienced examiner are of definite value in sterility work, especially in classifying the severity of testis degeneration and testis hypoplasia. Later investigators have used slightly different
