Sperm glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase gene expression in asthenozoospermic spermatozoa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
It has been suggested that the energy required for sperm motility is produced by oxidative phosphorylation while glycolysis seems to be an important source for ATP transmission along the flagellum.

PDIA6–SCD1 Axis Rewires Lipid Metabolism to Drive Gastric Cancer Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Protein disulfide isomerase A6 (PDIA6) is identified as an oncogenic driver in gastric cancer. PDIA6 directly binds and stabilizes SCD1 by limiting its ubiquitin–proteasome‐mediated degradation, thereby sustaining monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA)‐enriched lipid homeostasis and lipid metabolic reprogramming.

Mitochondrial behaviour throughout the lytic cycle of Toxoplasma gondii [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Mitochondria distribution in cells controls cellular physiology in health and disease. Here we describe the mitochondrial morphology and positioning found in the different stages of the lytic cycle of the eukaryotic single-cell parasite Toxoplasma gondii.

Modelling the Fluid Mechanics of Cilia and Flagella in Reproduction and Development

open access: yes, 2012
Cilia and flagella are actively bending slender organelles, performing functions such as motility, feeding and embryonic symmetry breaking. We review the mechanics of viscous-dominated microscale flow, including time-reversal symmetry, drag anisotropy of

Sperm morphological and morphometric evaluation in captive collared peccaries (Pecari tajacu)

open access: yesPesquisa Veterinária Brasileira, 2013
The aim of this study was to compare different staining methods for the evaluation of sperm morphology by light microscopy and also to describe the morphometry of the entire sperm in collared peccaries (Pecari tajacu). Semen from 10 males was obtained by

Swarm behavior of self-propelled rods and swimming flagella [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Systems of self-propelled particles are known for their tendency to aggregate and to display swarm behavior. We investigate two model systems, self-propelled rods interacting via volume exclusion, and sinusoidally-beating flagella embedded in a fluid ...

Immunogenicity of human spermatozoa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Investigation and experimental design of the study was basically aimed at developing insight into the antigenicity of spermatozoa-associated proteins. Apart from studying the natural antigenicity of washed whole spermatozoa, their immunogenicity was also

Deep-sea nematodes (Comesomatidae) from the Southwest Pacific Ocean: five new species and three new species records [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The present study describes five new free-living nematode species and provides three new species records of the family Comesomatidae (genera Cervonema Wieser, 1954, Dorylaimopsis Ditlevsen, 1918, Hopperia Vitiello, 1969, and Kenyanema Muthumbi et al ...
