Behavioral mechanisms of mammalian sperm guidance

open access: yesAsian Journal of Andrology, 2015
In mammals, sperm guidance in the oviduct appears essential for successful sperm arrival at the oocyte. Hitherto, three different potential sperm guidance mechanisms have been recognized: thermotaxis, rheotaxis, and chemotaxis, each of them using ...

The role of the molecular chaperone heat shock protein A2 (HSPA2) in regulating human sperm-egg recognition

open access: yesAsian Journal of Andrology, 2015
One of the most common lesions present in the spermatozoa of human infertility patients is an idiopathic failure of sperm-egg recognition. Although this unique cellular interaction can now be readily by-passed by assisted reproductive strategies such as ...

Fraksi Heksan Ekstrak Biji Pepaya Muda Dapat Menghambat Proses Spermatogenesis Mencit Jantan Lebih Besar Daripada Fraksi Metanol Ekstrak Biji Papaya Muda [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Fraksi ekstrak heksan mengandung dua golongan zat aktif yang bersifat antifertilitas yaitu golongan steroid dan golongan triterpenoid yang diperkirakan bersifat antifertilitas, walupun mekanisme kerjanya belum jelas.

Chronic Hypoxia Disrupts Spermatogenesis Through ASXL2–EZH2–Mediated Microtubule Destabilization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals the mechanism by which chronic hypoxia impairs spermatogenesis via the ASXL2–EZH2 axis, hindering the transition of spermatids from round to elongated forms. Key findings reveal that under hypoxic conditions, downregulated ASXL2 expression reduces EZH2 binding to the CEP162 promoter, leading to decreased H3K27me3 modification and ...

A comparative evaluation of semen parameters in pre- and post-Hurricane Katrina human population

open access: yesAsian Journal of Andrology, 2015
A natural disaster leading to accumulation of environmental contaminants may have substantial effects on the male reproductive system. Our aim was to compare and assess semen parameters in a normospermic population residing in the Southern Louisiana, USA

PSMA8‐Containing 20S Proteasome Regulates Spermiogenesis and Male Fertility

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PSMA8 assembles s20S proteasome that degrades specific substrates in elongating spermatids. Degradation of s20S‐substrates activates translation of FXR1‐target mRNAs, which are essential for mitochondrial sheath formation and sperm morphogenesis.

Varicocele and testicular function

open access: yesAsian Journal of Andrology, 2015
Testicular varicocele, a dilation of the veins of the pampiniform plexus thought to increase testicular temperature via venous congestion, is commonly associated with male infertility.

Recruitment of Mediator Complex by Cell Type and Stage-Specific Factors Required for Tissue-Specific TAF Dependent Gene Activation in an Adult Stem Cell Lineage. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2015
Onset of terminal differentiation in adult stem cell lineages is commonly marked by robust activation of new transcriptional programs required to make the appropriate differentiated cell type(s).

Endogenous Ceramide 24:1 Constrains Th17‐Driven Neutrophilic Inflammation by Antagonizing EP2 Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cer24:1 levels are reduced in neutrophilic asthma and inversely correlate with disease severity and airway neutrophilia. Restoring Cer24:1 suppresses pathogenic Th17 differentiation by engaging EP2 on CD4+ T cells, thereby dampening the JAK2–STAT3–RORγt axis and reducing IL‐17 production.

Isolation of Sertoli, Leydig, and spermatogenic cells from the mouse testis

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2011
A thorough understanding of the events during mammalian spermatogenesis requires studying specific molecular signatures of individual testicular cell populations as well as their interaction in co-cultures.
