A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Crystal Form Investigation and Morphology Control of Salbutamol Sulfate via Spherulitic Growth

open access: yesCrystals
Salbutamol sulfate is a selective β2-receptor agonist used to treat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The crystals of salbutamol sulfate usually appear as needles with a relatively large aspect ratio, showing poor powder properties.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

DENDRITIC CRYSTALLIZATION OF CAST IRON

open access: yesЛитьë и металлургия, 2015
It is shown that crystallization of the main phases in cast iron happens on the dendritic mechanism. The main phases when hardening cast iron are dendrites of austenite, graphite and a cementite.

Investigation of structural transition in molybdates CuMo1-xWxO4 prepared by polymeric precursor method [PDF]

open access: yesProcessing and Application of Ceramics, 2017
Solid solutions (CuMo1-xWxO4 where 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.12) were synthesized by using a polymeric precursor method. The crystallization process of the polymeric precursors was investigated using TG-DTA, FTIR and XRD techniques.

The crystal structure of the Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase BBE22 resolves a long‐standing annotation error

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...

Synthesis of monodisperse spherical AgNPs by ultrasound-intensified Lee-Meisel method, and quick evaluation via machine learning

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry, 2021
Due to the high reactivity of Ag+ and uncontrolled growth process, the AgNPs produced by conventional Lee-Meisel method always exhibited larger particle size (30–200 nm) and polydisperse morphology (including spherical, triangular, and rod-like shape ...

Superstructures on Spherical Gold Crystals

open access: yesZeitschrift für Naturforschung A, 1978
Abstract Spherically shaped crystals of gold were grown by solidification of a drop of melt in UHV. Their surfaces were investigated in situ by RHEED. The superstructures (001) (5 × 20) and (110) (1 × 2) were observed again. Further superstructures were found: on (001) vicinal planes, (227) (1 × 1), (111) (23 × 1) and (551)c(1 × 1 ...

Crystal morphology of spherical viruses

open access: yesJournal of Mining Institute, 2021
The article discusses modern views on the structure of spherical virus capsids, which have the shape of icosahedrons (icosahedral viruses). Each face of icosahedron is composed of a single-layer closest packing of protein globules, which can have different orientation relative to the edges of icosahedron.
