Chronic Exposure to Ochratoxin A Induces Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease‐Like Symptoms and Obesity With Sex‐Specific Effects in Zebrafish

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 5, September 2026.
Ochratoxin A exposure induced MASLD and obesity in a sex‐specific manner. Disruption in adipocytokine signaling pathway and vitamin D metabolism led to lipid remodeling and obesity in females. However, activation of PPAR signaling pathway and ferroptosis contributed to lipid remodeling and obesity in males.

Bushen Huatan Formula Ameliorates Early Chronic Low‐Grade Inflammation in Obese PCOS Via the TLR4/NF‐κB Signaling Pathway: An Integrated Network Pharmacology and Experimental Study

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective This study used an integrated network pharmacology and experimental strategy to investigate how Bushen Huatan Formula (BHF) mitigates early‐stage chronic low‐grade inflammation in obese polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Methods Candidate components and targets of BHF were retrieved from the TCMSP database, and protein–protein ...

Iron‐Sulfur Cluster Targeting: A Novel Perspective for Treating Alcohol‐Related Lipid Metabolic Diseases

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Volume 40, Issue 9, September 2026.
Alcohol metabolism induces structural instability of iron‐sulfur clusters through ROS‐mediated oxidative damage and direct covalent modification of acetaldehyde. The iron‐sulfur cluster deficiency drives metabolic reprogramming by inactivating aconitase, accumulating succinate, and impairing tRNA thiolation, thereby promoting hepatic steatosis ...

Fisetin Attenuates Uterine Leiomyoma in Rats: Potential Crosstalk Between HMGB1, SphK1/S1P, and TGF‐β Signaling

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Volume 40, Issue 9, September 2026.
Fisetin attenuates monosodium glutamate‐induced uterine leiomyoma by reducing sex hormones and suppressing S1P/SphK1 signaling, HMGB1‐mediated inflammation, and fibrotic markers. These coordinated effects alleviate fibrosis and restore uterine tissue architecture, highlighting fisetin as a promising natural therapeutic candidate.

ALY688 Protects Against Myocardial Ischemia‐Reperfusion Injury via Direct Effects and Rab8a‐Dependent Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study identifies ALY688, a synthetic adiponectin receptor agonist, as a potent cardioprotective agent against ischemia‐reperfusion injury. ALY688 reduced infarct size, cardiomyocyte death, and oxidative stress, while preserving cardiac function. Mechanistically, it enhanced extracellular vesicle (EV) number through Rab8a‐dependent signaling and ...

Natural Product‐Derived Vesicles in Nanotherapeutics

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2026.
Natural product‐derived vesicles (NPVs) are an emerging nature‐based nanotherapeutic that can deliver bioactive metabolites into the target site and induce beneficial mechanisms. A practical, chronological bench‐to‐bedside approach throughout the entire NPV development process is expected to resolve challenges encountered in NPV studies.

GW4869 Depletes Macrophages and Increases Number of Extracellular Vesicles in Murine Peritoneal Cavity Fluid

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Biology, Volume 5, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Pharmacological strategies to modulate extracellular vesicle (EV) release in vivo are gaining traction, yet their broader effects on local immune microenvironments remain unclear. In this study, we assessed how repeated intraperitoneal (i.p.) dosing of the neutral sphingomyelinase inhibitor GW4869 reshapes the peritoneal cavity.

Systematic Analysis of Plasma‐Derived Extracellular Vesicle‐Enriched Samples in Age‐Related Macular Degeneration Reveals Oxidative Stress Linked to Altered Lipid and Protein Profiles

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Biology, Volume 5, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Vision impairment caused by age‐related macular degeneration (AMD) is a global health priority. Retinal pathology is driven by ageing and exacerbated by genetic and environmental risk factors. Peripheral blood circulation is increasingly recognised as a contributor to disease initiation and progression, and a source of biomarkers to support ...

Metabolic Syndrome: From Mechanisms to Therapeutic Interventions

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2026.
A comprehensive overview of molecular mechanisms delves into the potential disease mechanisms of metabolic syndrome, including complex mechanisms such as insulin resistance, chronic low‐grade inflammation, oxidative stress, and epigenetic modifications, and how these mechanisms contribute to the development of metabolic syndrome. Here, the relationship
