Poly(amino acid) Synthesis from 2,5‐Diketopiperazines for Acid‐Actuated Drug Release
The ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of 2,5‐diketopiperazines (2,5‐DKPs) to yield poly(amino acids) is reported. This route to poly(amino acids) has circularity, and permits the straightforward production of nanoparticles for controlled release applications.

The role of disulfide bond replacements in analogues of the Tarantula toxin ProTx-II and their effects on inhibition of the voltage-gated sodium ion channel Nav1.7 [PDF]
Spider venom toxins, such as Protoxin-II (ProTx-II), have recently received much attention as selective Nav1.7 channel blockers, with potential to be developed as leads for the treatment of chronic nocioceptive pain.

Abstract Affinity photolabeling is a smart method to study noncovalent and transient interactions and provide a submolecular picture of the contacts between interacting partners. In this review, we will focus on the identification of peptide partners using photoaffinity labeling coupled to mass spectrometry in different contexts such as in vitro with a

Voltage-gated sodium channels (VGSCs; NaV1.1–NaV1.9) have been proven to be critical in controlling the function of excitable cells, and human genetic evidence shows that aberrant function of these channels causes channelopathies, including epilepsy ...

ESTIMATING THE VALUE OF BT CORN: A MULTI-STATE COMPARISON [PDF]
Bt corn offers a powerful tool to control European corn borers and some other pests. Because pest infestations and farming practices differ across the Corn Belt, economic benefits also differ.

Friends or Foes? Emerging Impacts of Biological Toxins [PDF]
Toxins are substances produced from biological sources (e.g., animal, plants, microorganisms) that have deleterious effects on a living organism. Despite the obvious health concerns of being exposed to toxins, they are having substantial positive impacts

Key Mechanisms to Mechanically Improve Polyacrylamide‐Based Hydrogels
ABSTRACT Hydrogels usually have weak mechanical properties (e.g., very low elastic modulus and strength of the polyacrylamide hydrogel). To improve the mechanical properties for broader applications, double‐network hydrogels have been developed, such as the polyacrylamide‐alginate hydrogels with the additional alginate network cross‐linked by metal ...
