EPR Spin trapping of protein radicals

Free Radical Biology and Medicine, 2004
Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spin trapping was originally developed to aid the detection of low-molecular-mass radicals formed in chemical systems. It has subsequently found widespread use in biology and medicine for the direct detection of radical species formed during oxidative stress and via enzymatic reactions.

Spin Trapping with Thiones

1988
Thiones are Known to be efficient spin traps for a variety of free radicals centred at carbon and at other elements of Group IV (silicon, germanium, tin, lead), Group V (phosphorus), Group VI (oxygen, sulphur, selenium) and at transition metals (such as manganese and rhenium).

The Synthesis of Spin Traps

1999
Abstract In many examples of scientific endeavors, useful discoveries are often not directly associated with the original intent of the research. In the case of cyclic nitrones, the initial design of these compounds was to address fundamental questions unrelated to spin trapping free radicals.

ESR Spin trapping

2000
Abstract Election spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy is a technique that can be applied to the detection and measurement of free radicals, because it detects the presence of unpaired electrons.

[22] Spin trapping

1984
Publisher Summary The method of detecting reactive short-lived free radicals by the spin-trapping technique was first demonstrated in the late 1960s. At this time, the spin-trapping method involves the addition of an organic compound (spin trap) to the solution under investigation.

The chemistry of perfluoroisobutylene (PFIB) with nitrone and nitroso spin traps: an EPR/Spin trapping study

Chemico-Biological Interactions, 1997
While applying electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR)/Spin Trapping techniques, several reactive intermediate species were identified in the reaction of perfluoroisobutylene (PFIB) with nitrone and nitroso spin trap agents: the carbon dioxide radical anion (CO2.-), a carbonyl fluoride intermediate (COF), and vinyl carbanions of PFIB.
