Nigra‐Subthalamic Dopaminergic Circuitry Modulates and Represents Distinct Pain Modality in Physiological and Pain States in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nigral dopaminergic (DA) neurons modulate and represent pain with a preference to a particular modality (mechanical) and laterality (contralateral), which are controlled by nigral GABAergic neurons. The pain modulation is mimicked by the nigro‐subthalamic projection and its downstream neurons, involving D2‐like receptors.

CO- TRANSPLANTATION OF BONE MARROW STROMAL CELLS WITH SCHWANN CELLS EVOKES MECHANICAL ALLODYNIA IN THE CONTUSION MODEL OF SPINAL CORD INJURY IN RATS [PDF]

open access: yes
Objective: Several studies have shown that, although transplantation of neural stem cells into the contusion model of spinal cord injury (SCI) promotes locomotor function and improves functional recovery, it induces a painful response, Allodynia ...

Fecal microbiota transplantation in patients with spinal cord injury with recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection: a case report

open access: yesThe Journal of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine
Objective:. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is an emerging treatment for Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) through reconstruction of the gut microbiota, but its impact in people with spinal cord injury (PWSCI) is limited.

Cis‐ and Trans‐Regulatory Factors Independently Shape Phenotypic Heterogeneity of Retinitis Pigmentosa

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A zebrafish model carrying an identical human RHO S334X allele reveals two independent genetic layers shaping retinitis pigmentosa (RP) severity: a protective 3‐bp cis‐regulatory insertion that attenuates transgene expression, and a dominant trans‐acting modifier that restores a severe phenotype.

FGF13 Deficiency Ameliorates Paclitaxel‐Induced Neuropathic Pain by Inhibiting VASH1‐Mediated Microtubule Detyrosination to Promote Mitophagy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
FGF13 is upregulated in DRG neurons of PIPNP model mice. DRG neuron‐specific knockout of FGF13 ameliorates PIPNP symptoms. Mechanistically, FGF13 potentiates microtubule detyrosination by promoting VASH1 binding to microtubules. FGF13 knockout suppresses VASH1‐mediated microtubule detyrosination and promotes α‐tubulin tyrosination.

Mechanisms involved in chronic neuropathic pain after avulsion injury

open access: yes, 2010
PhDMotor vehicle accidents are the most common cause of injuries involving avulsion of spinal roots from the brachial or lumbosacral plexuses. This results in chronic intractable pain that is refractory to pharmacotherapy.
