Shape manipulation using physically based wire deformations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper develops an efficient, physically based shape manipulation technique. It defines a 3D model with profile curves, and uses spine curves generated from the profile curves to control the motion and global shape of 3D models.

Mutant NPM1 in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Initiation and Maintenance

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
NPM1 mutations drive acute myeloid leukemia by acting as neomorphic transcriptional regulators that cooperate with Menin–MLL and XPO1 to sustain HOX/MEIS1 expression and block differentiation. Targeting these mutant‐specific transcriptional dependencies provides a rational therapeutic strategy for NPM1‐mutated AML.

The Severity of Preoperative Cervical Disc Degeneration Is an Important Risk Factor for Cervical Fusion Failure After Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion

open access: yesInternational Journal of Clinical Practice
Conclusions: Patients with a higher preoperative D Score (> 23.5) and Mean Surgery D Score (> 4.125) have a higher risk of fusion failure after ACDF.

Spine immobilization apparatus [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
The apparatus makes use of a normally flat, flexible bladder filled with beads or micro-balloons that form a rigid mass when the pressure within the bladder is decreased below ambient through the use of a suction pump so that the bladder can be conformed

Lessons Learned From a Delayed‐Start Trial of Modafinil for Freezing of Gait in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Freezing of gait (FOG) in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) is debilitating and has limited treatments. Modafinil modulates beta/gamma band activity in the pedunculopontine nucleus (PPN), like PPN deep brain stimulation. We therefore tested the hypothesis that Modafinil would improve FOG in PwPD.

Trans-foraminal endoscopic uniportal decompression in degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis: a technical and case report

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Neurosurgery, 2019
Background Degenerative spondylolisthesis is a common spinal pathology. Traditionally, spinal fusion is an accepted standard surgical treatment for listhesis. But fusion is a major intervention with its known pitfalls.

Single-Stage Posterior Approach for Multilevel Cervical Ossification of the Posterior Longitudinal Ligament With K-line (−) Using Thick Cervical Pedicle Screw System: A Technical Note and Preliminary Results

open access: yesGlobal Spine Journal, 2023
Study Design: Technical note, retrospective case series. Objective: The optimal surgical strategy for multilevel cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) with a negative kyphosis line (K-line (−)) remains controversial.

Dendritic cable with active spines: a modeling study in the spike-diffuse-spike framework [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The spike-diffuse-spike (SDS) model describes a passive dendritic tree with active dendritic spines. Spine-head dynamics is modelled with a simple integrate-and-fire process, whilst communication between spines is mediated by the cable equation. Here we

Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.

Does the Surgical Timing and Decompression Alone or Fusion Surgery in Lumbar Stenosis Influence Outcome in Cauda Equina Syndrome? [PDF]

open access: yesAsian Spine Journal, 2019
Study Design A retrospective comparative analysis of 64 patients with cauda equina syndrome (CES), who underwent either decompression alone (NF) or fusion (F) surgery. Purpose We compared the outcomes and timing effects.
