An ecological risk assessment for spinosad use on cotton

Pest Management Science, 2001
AbstractSpinosad is a reduced‐risk insecticide with a novel mode of action that provides an alternative to older classes of insecticides such as organophosphates, carbamates and pyrethroids. A comprehensive ecological risk assessment for spinosad use in US cotton crops is presented within a framework of tiered levels of refinement following the ...

Spinosad for the treatment of head lice infestations

Drugs of Today, 2012
Head lice infestations continue to be an issue in today's society, with an increase in economic cost and resistance. Spinosad 0.9% topical suspension was recently introduced in the U.S. market as a novel agent with both pediculicidal and ovicidal activity, approved in children 4 years of age and older for the treatment of head lice infestations.

Properties, toxicity and current applications of the biolarvicide spinosad

Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health, Part B, 2019
Characterized as a highly valuable bioactive natural product, spinosad is a pesticide with a complex chemical structure, composed of spinosyn A and D, molecules synthesized by the actinomycete Saccharopolyspora spinosa. The larvicidal activity of spinosad was postulated to be a promising approach to combat crop pests and control species responsible to ...

Can spinosad-resistant Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) be managed with spinosad and predatory mites (Acari)?

Crop Protection, 2012
Abstract Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) is a serious pest of a wide range of horticultural and ornamental crops. Populations resistant to most conventional insecticides, including–spinosad, have been detected. To control spinosad-resistant thrips, growers could use a ‘high-rate’/biological control strategy.

History and future perspectives of spinosad for mosquito control

Pest Management Science
AbstractSince the initial discovery of the soil‐dwelling actinomycete Saccharopolyspora spinosa in 1982, its metabolites spinosyns and modified spinosoids have been developed to control a wide variety of arthropod pests of economic importance. The most intensively studied are spinosad consisting of natural spinosyn A and D, as well as spinetoram ...

Combined ivermectin and spinosad effects on sepsid flies

Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry
Abstract Human-generated pollutants can act in combination to affect the dynamics of nontarget beneficial insect populations. In this study we simulated a natural scenario by exposing five closely related species of temperate sepsid dung flies (Diptera: Sepsidae) to realistically low concentrations of the parasiticide ivermectin ...

Spinosad is a potent inhibitor of canine P-glycoprotein

The Veterinary Journal, 2014
Inhibition of the drug transporter P-glycoprotein (P-gp) by the oral flea preventative spinosad has been suggested as the underlying cause of the drug-drug interaction with ivermectin. In this study, an in vitro model consisting of canine cells was validated to describe the inhibitory effect of drugs on canine P-gp.

Comparison of Aeration and Spinosad for Suppressing Insects in Stored Wheat

Journal of Economic Entomology, 2004
Field studies were conducted from July 2002 to January 2003 for evaluating the effects of controlled aeration and a commercial biological insecticide, spinosad, in suppressing insect populations in stored wheat. Six cylindrical steel bins were filled with newly harvested (2002 crop year) hard red winter wheat on 9 and 10 July 2002.

Strategies for Enhancing the Yield of the Potent Insecticide Spinosad in Actinomycetes

Biotechnology Journal, 2018
Spinosad is a potent insecticide that exhibits an excellent environmental and mammalian profile. However, spinosad production in the original producer, Saccharopolyspora spinosa, is insufficient for the huge global demand. Great efforts have been exerted to improve the production of spinosad.

[Advances in the biosynthesis of spinosad - A review].

Wei sheng wu xue bao = Acta microbiologica Sinica, 2016
Spinosad, extracted from Saccharopolyspora spinosa, one of the most successful commercial bio-insecticides, is derived from a family of macrocyclic lactones. It shows excellent potent insecticidal activities, low residue, and low environmental effect.
