Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Generation of Optical Vortices With Polarization-Insensitive Metasurfaces
Traditionally, optical vortices (OVs) were generated with diffractive optical elements (DOEs) such as spiral phase plate (SPP), fork grating, spatial light modulator (SLM), and liquid crystal display (LCD).

Calibration of the Soleil–Babinet Compensator Based on the Vectorial Optical Field
The Soleil–Babinet compensator (SBC) is a variable retarder and has been used in a variety of application fields. A scheme based on the vectorial optical field is proposed to calibrate the SBC by transforming the change of the phase retardation into the ...

Importin 7 mediates the nuclear import of HIV‐1 integrase via a specific interacting interface
HIV‐1 integrase enables viral DNA integration into the host genome. By binding to the core domain of the host protein Importin 7 via its C‐terminal domain, the integrase is transported across the nuclear membrane into the nucleus, where integration of the viral genome into host DNA takes place. This translocation is a critical step for subsequent viral

Propagation of an Azimuthally Polarized Terahertz Laser Beams with a Phase Singularity
Analytical expressions are derived to describe the nonparaxial diffraction of modes in a dielectric waveguide resonator for a terahertz laser. The study examines the interaction between azimuthally polarized TE0m (m = 1, 2, 3) modes and a spiral phase ...

Glioblastoma cells express calcitonin receptor variants (CT receptor isoforms) that may help them survive stress. Using qPCR, transcript‐specific long‐read nanopore sequencing, immunofluorescence co‐localisation and comparative sequence analysis, this study identifies a novel alternatively spliced CALCR transcript that encodes the CTb receptor isoform ...

Comparative assessment of crystallographic and cryo‐EM models in the Protein Data Bank
Raw data obtained by X‐ray crystallography or cryo‐EM result in experimental maps, ultimately fitted by atomic models. Although the physical principles are different, the final results can be viewed, compared, and evaluated in the same way. With cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) on track to surpass X‐ray crystallography as the preferred method ...
