A tension approach to controlling the shape of cubic spline surfaces on FVS triangulations

open access: yes, 2009
We propose a parametric tensioned version of the FVS macro-element to control the shape of the composite surface and remove artificial oscillations, bumps and other undesired behaviour.

Physics‐Informed Neural Network‐Enabled Forward Prediction and Inverse Design of Ring Origami

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a KRT‐PINN framework that integrates Kirchhoff rod theory with physics‐informed neural networks for the forward prediction and inverse design of ring origami consisting of closed‐loop rods. The framework predicts stable states of segmented rings with prescribed natural‐curvature profiles and determines the natural‐curvature profiles ...

Wearable‐Derived Diurnal Alignment Between Physical Activity and Device Temperature Predicts Future Disease and Mortality Risk

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Wearable‐derived diurnal alignment between physical activity and device temperature, decomposed into 24 h coupling strength (M24), phase deviation (D24), and 12 h harmonic magnitude (M12), is examined in approximately 90,000 UK Biobank participants.

Manifold splines

open access: yesGraphical Models, 2005
Summary: Constructing splines whose parametric domain is an arbitrary manifold and effectively computing such splines in real-world applications are of fundamental importance in solid and shape modeling, geometric design, graphics, etc. This paper presents a general theoretical and computational framework, in which spline surfaces defined over planar ...

A class of cubic and quintic spline modified collocation methods for the solution of two-point boundary value problems

open access: yes, 1987
This paper is concerned with the study of a class of methods for solving second and fourth-order two-point boundary-value problems. The methods under consideration are modifications of the standard cubic and quintic spline collocation techniques, and ...

AI‐Assisted Digital Single‐Molecule Activity Tracker for Decoupling Intrinsic Heterogeneity from Photo‐Oxidative Damage in High‐Photon‐Flux Enzymology

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Employing a digital single‐molecule activity tracker (dSMAT), this research demonstrates that high‐photon‐flux irradiation drives progressive oxidative scarring in polymerases. Unlike simple thermal denaturation, real‐time kinetic tracking dynamically visualizes enzymes degrading into multiple impaired subpopulations.

Ban Glyphosate—Does It Affect the Swedish Farmers' Willingness to Grow Cover Crops?

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The cultivation of cover crops is one of the new Eco‐scheme practices introduced in Sweden. This study examines how the design of policy attributes of these schemes influences farmers' willingness to grow cover crops on arable land, with particular focus on the potential impact of a glyphosate ban.

Cubic spline population density functions and subcentre delimitation. The case of Barcelona [PDF]

open access: yes
The presence of subcentres cannot be captured by an exponential function. Cubic spline functions seem more appropriate to depict the polycentricity pattern of modern urban systems.

Unpacking the Farmland Capitalization Effect of Ethanol Establishment

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We unpack the impact of expansions in ethanol production—as measured by proximity to newly constructed ethanol plants and capacity expansions—on farmland values using land transaction data from Kansas in combination with modern causal inference techniques.

Tangled Splines

open access: yesCoRR, 2016
Extracting shape information from object bound- aries is a well studied problem in vision, and has found tremen- dous use in applications like object recognition. Conversely, studying the space of shapes represented by curves satisfying certain constraints is also intriguing.
