Midgut proteins released by microapocrine secretion in Spodoptera frugiperda

open access: yesJournal of Insect Physiology, 2013
Microapocrine vesicles bud from the lepidopteran midgut microvilli as double membrane vesicles. To identify the proteins secreted by this process, antibodies raised against isolated microapocrine vesicles from Spodoptera frugiperda were used for screening a midgut cDNA expression library.

Beyond birds: rethinking bird‐centered pathogen models in light of insect migration

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2026, Issue 6, June 2026.
Migration redistributes biomass, nutrients, and pathogens across ecosystems. For decades, migratory birds have been treated as the default long‐distance pathogen vectors, shaping both conceptual frameworks and empirical models of disease ecology.

Media‐dependent performance of rabies virus‐like particle production under low oxygen tension in baculovirus‐infected Sf9 cells

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, Volume 101, Issue 6, Page 1273-1282, June 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Rabies continues to pose a major public health threat, causing approximately 59 000 deaths each year, especially in regions with limited resources where high costs restrict vaccine access. Safer and scalable vaccine platforms, such as virus‐like particles, are promising alternatives, but their production is highly sensitive to ...

A characterization of piARNs, their biogenesis and their targets in Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae)

open access: yes
PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) and PIWI proteins were initially described as involved in gametogenesis and preservation of genome integrity through the control of transposable elements (TE).

La Evaluación del control biológico de Spodoptera frugiperda en el cultivo de maíz: Control biológico de Spodoptera frugiperda

open access: yes, 2018
Corn is important grain in human nutrition and raw material for the elaboration of balanced food products. It has been world-wide reported that the most aggressive plague insect is the cogollero worm (Spodoptera frugiperda) since it is considered a ...

Biological Pesticides as Viable Alternative to Synthetic Pesticides for Sustainable Agriculture and Nutrition: A Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment, Volume 5, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The overuse of synthetic pesticides in agriculture has raised significant environmental and health concerns. Biopesticides have emerged as viable, environmentally compatible alternatives. However, recent comprehensive reviews integrating all biopesticide categories and emphasizing their contribution to synthetic‐pesticide‐free and health‐safe ...

A novel fusion tool to enable G protein‐coupled receptor structure determination

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section D, Volume 82, Issue 6, Page 655-663, June 2026.
The development of a new fusion tool in which a β‐lactamase fusion tag and a binding partner enabled the structure determination of an antagonist‐bound G protein‐coupled receptor by cryo‐EM is reported.Structure determination of G protein‐coupled receptors (GPCRs) plays an important role in accelerating drug development against this medically important
