The barrier risk to the ecological connectivity of plant diversity in karst landscapes in Guizhou Province, China

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science
Ecological connectivity in landscapes is crucial for plant diversity conservation. The barrier risk to ecological connectivity represents the risk to ecological connectivity loss or weakening, resulting from the barrier to biological information exchange

3D Printing of Stretchable, Compressible and Conductive Porous Polyurethane for Soft Robotics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printable porous dopamine‐polyurethane acrylate elastomer results in conductive, stretchable, and compressible structures that can be metallized in situ through catechol‐mediated silver reduction. The resulting material function as both compliant soft robot with a and strain sensors without complex assemblies, enabling fully 3D‐printed soft ...

The perils and merits (or the Good, the Bad and the Ugly) of DNA barcoding of sponges – a controversial discussion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
DNA barcodes are defined as signature sequences used to identify unknown specimens. They have been proposed as a means to quickly solve the taxonomical impediment, through an organised and highly structured effort, using the same part of the ...

Hierarchical Multi‐Material Architectures With Gradient Design for Dynamic‐Range Flexible Tactile Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hierarchical multi‐material TPMS lattices are engineered as flexible tactile sensors by combining soft and stiff elastomeric layers with a conformal conductive coating. The bilayer architecture delivers sensitivity at low pressures while maintaining a broad detectable range under large loads, enabling reliable pressure and vibration monitoring for ...

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

The Crystalline Sponge Method in Water

open access: yes, 2019
The crystalline sponge method entails the elucidation of the (absolute) structure of molecules from a solution phase using single-crystal X-ray diffraction and eliminates the need for crystals of the target compound.

Prediction of Vegetation Indices Series Based on SWAT-ML: A Case Study in the Jinsha River Basin

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Vegetation dynamics significantly influence watershed ecohydrological processes. Physically based hydrological models often have general plant development descriptions but lack vegetation dynamics data for ecohydrological simulations.
