Theileria annulata sporozoite targets

Parasite Immunology, 1994
SUMMARYBovine peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBM) infected in vitro with Theileria annulata sporozoites have previously been characterized as MHC class II+ mature macrophages. The ability of T. annulata sporozoites to infect different subpopulations of MHC class II+ bovine monocytes was investigated.

Scoring Sporozoite Motility

2012
Sporozoites, the stage of Plasmodium infectious to vertebrates when injected in the skin by a mosquito vector, are highly motile cells. Their unusual form of gliding motility is essential for infectivity, allowing the parasite to travel through both the mosquito and mammalian hosts, invading different cell types and escaping immune cell-mediated death.

Plasmodium falciparum Sporozoite Immunization Protects against Plasmodium berghei Sporozoite Infection

Experimental Parasitology, 1993
Irradiated sporozoites are generally thought to elicit protective immune responses that are parasite stage and species specific. But immunization with Plasmodium falciparum sporozoites delivered by the bite of infected mosquitoes protects an average of 60% mice from Plasmodium berghei sporozoite infection.

Development of sporozoite vaccines

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. B, Biological Sciences, 1984
Protective immunity against m alaria has been achieved in hosts ranging from birds to man by repeated inoculation of irradiated sporozoites. The main antigens involved in protective immunity to sporozoites are the circumsporozoite (CS) proteins, which are part of a family of proteins, covering the whole surface mem brane of the parasite, and which have

Freezing Excysted Coccidial Sporozoites

The Journal of Parasitology, 1969
Excysted sporozoites of Eimeria adenoeides, E. mivati, and E. tenella were placed in media containing different concentrations (2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, and 15%) of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). In the absence of freezing, survival of sporozoites was better at the lower concentrations.
