Callosal oligodendrocyte number in postpartum Sprague-Dawley rats
Brain Research, 2009Prolactin (PRL), an anterior pituitary hormone with neurogenic properties associated with pregnancy, has been implicated in oligodendrocyte proliferation during gestation, contributing to increased myelination in the maternal brain. However, PRL is elevated during lactation as well, suggesting that the postpartum (PP) period may contribute to ...

Carcinogenicity of 4-chloronitrosopiperidine in Sprague-Dawley rats
Zeitschrift fr Krebsforschung und Klinische Onkologie, 19784-Chloronitrosopiperidine was administered to a group of 15 male Sprague-Dawley rats as a 0.005% solution in drinking water for 27 weeks. Of the 15 animals, 12 died with tumors induced by the treatment, half of them by the 41 st week; all 15 were dead at 58 weeks.

KIDNEY TRANSPLANTS IN CYCLOSPORINE-TREATED SPRAGUE-DAWLEY RATS
Transplantation, 1990Previous studies by others have shown that transplanted rat kidneys have abnormally low clearances of paraaminohippuric acid, inulin, and creatinine, due to rejection and/or to warm-ischemia-induced injury. In the present studies, randomly bred Sprague-Dawley rats were used as donors and recipients.

Developmental Toxicity of Thiodiglycol in Sprague-Dawley Rats
International Journal of Toxicology, 2007Thiodiglycol (TG), a hydrolysis product of sulfur mustard (HD), is a potential contaminant of soil and water at certain military sites. To establish developmental toxicity criteria for TG, an oral developmental toxicity study was conducted in Sprague-Dawley rats.

Disposition of butadiene epoxides in Sprague-Dawley rats
Chemico-Biological Interactions, 19971,2-Epoxybutene (BMO) and diepoxybutane (BDE) are metabolic products of 1,3-butadiene in rodents. Both BMO and BDE are suspect in the development of tumors in rats and mice. To understand the distribution and elimination of these compounds in the absence of the rate-limiting production from butadiene, the pharmacokinetics of BMO and BDE in blood were ...

Retinal dystrophy in Sprague-Dawley rats.
Laboratory animal science, 1975A spontaneous retinal dystrophy was found in 4 percent of Sprague-Dawley-derived rats examined. The lesion occurred both unilaterally and bilaterally in equal frequency, but the incidence in the females was 2 times greater than in males. Retinal change consisted of focal or diffuse absence of the outer layers of the retina, but frank degenerative ...
