Spray Formation and Penetration

2014
The conventional understanding of spray formation when liquid leaves the nozzle is based on the analysis of the following stages: development of a jet, conversion of a jet into liquid sheets and ligaments, disintegration of ligaments into relatively large droplets (primary break-up) and break-up of large droplets into smaller ones (secondary break-up).

Method for Determining Spray Penetration into Carpet

1987
Control of an indoor flea infestation involves two simultaneous steps: treatment of the animal to kill adult fleas and application of residual insecticides to the carpet (substrate) to kill immature stages. Laboratory studies have shown that about 80% of the larvae in carpet remain at the base.

Calculation of Spray Penetration in Diesel Engines

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1969
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The mechanism of spray formation at high velocities is so complicated that it cannot be subjected to a complete mathematical treatment. Despite numerous studies made since Plateau, no reliable formula known can calculate directly and accurately the spray characteristics such as cone angle, spray velocity, droplet ...

Is the liquid penetration in diesel sprays mixing controlled?

Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2000
Computations of spray penetration and vaporization under diesel conditions are performed under different injection and ambient conditions. A two-fluid model which solves Eulerian field equations for the gas and the liquid phases is employed to model vaporizing non-combusting sprays under high injection pressure diesel conditions.

Reproducibility of Pesticide Spray Penetration Tests with the UNCG-Clemson Spray Box

1996
Development and refinement of laboratory tests to prescreen barrier fabrics and predict performance in the field are important, since field studies are 1) expensive and time-consuming, and 2) variables such as wind, humidity, and sunlight are impossible to control.

Penetration path analysis of diesel sprays via spray force measurements

2016
The combustion engine continues to play an important role in realizing mobility solutions, while legal requirements calling for lower emissions and consumption make it necessary to advance the technology further. In light of the already high level of development maturity exhibited by the combustion engine, not only do individual components need to be ...

Penetration and Dispersion of Transient Gas Jets and Sprays

Combustion Science and Technology, 1997
Abstract Results from numerical computations performed to represent the transient behavior of axisymmetric non-vaporizing and vaporizing sprays injected into a constant volume chamber are presented. These results are compared with those from vaporizing spray experiments where, for the same mass and momentum flow rates, the effect of chamber density on ...

Analysis of Current Spray Penetration Models and Proposal of a Phenomenological Cone Penetration Model

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1996
<div class="htmlview paragraph">A phenomenological zero-dimensional spray penetration model was developed for diesel-type conditions for a constant volume chamber. The spray was modeled as a protruding cone which is well-mixed at its tip after passing through initial primary and secondary breakup zones.

Effect of Combustion on Diesel Spray Penetrations in Relation to Vaporizing, Non-Reacting Sprays

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2016
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Extensive studies have addressed diesel sprays under non-vaporizing, vaporizing and combusting conditions respectively, but further insights into the mechanism by which combustion alters the macroscopic characteristics including the spray penetration and the shape of the spray ...

Correlations of Non-Vaporizing Spray Penetration for 3000 Bar Diesel Spray Injection

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2013
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Increasing fuel injection pressure has enabled reduction of diesel emissions while retaining the advantage of the high thermal efficiency of diesel engines. With production diesel injectors operating in the range from 300 to 2400 bar, there is interest in injection pressures of ...
