Association mapping of malting quality traits in UK spring and winter barley cultivar collections
Historical malting quality data was collated from UK national and recommended list trial data and used in a GWAS. 25 QTL were identified, with the majority from spring barley cultivar sets.

The barley–malt–beer chain: A process and food safety approach
Abstract This review addresses the current state of knowledge on the barley–malt–beer chain and its main physical, chemical, and microbiological contaminants, with particular emphasis on spoilage microorganisms and their toxic metabolites. The barley–malt–beer production chain represents a mature and globally relevant agro‐industrial sector that ...

Salt‐induced nutritional and metabolic shifts in halophytes: implications for food security
Abstract Plant species vary in their response to salinity: some crops show a degree of salt tolerance, while halophytes – whether wild or cultivated – are characterized by a high capacity to thrive under saline conditions. Halophytes are considered a source of valuable secondary metabolites with potential economic value, yet they might also produce ...

Genetic dissection of photoperiod response based on GWAS of pre-anthesis phase duration in spring barley [PDF]
Heading time is a complex trait, and natural variation in photoperiod responses is a major factor controlling time to heading, adaptation and grain yield.

Agricultural drought and spring barley yields in the Czech Republic
The relationship between detrended district yields of spring barley (1961–2000) and meteorological drought was assessed by Palmer Z-index. We found that the seasonal water balance (April–June) significantly (P = 0.05) influences the spring barley ...
