Control of spurious modes in the nine‐node quadrilateral element

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1982
AbstractThe nine‐node quadrilateral is much more accurate than its eight‐node relative if elements are non‐rectangular. However, the nine‐node element may display spurious low‐energy modes under 2 × 2 Gauss quadrature. These modes can be controlled by using the 3 × 3 quadrature rule, but at added cost.

Suppression of spurious lateral modes in thickness-excited FBAR resonators

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 2005
Thin film bulk acoustic wave resonators (FBAR) utilize thickness-excited modes in which the resonant frequency is determined by the thickness of the structure and the wave velocity of the mode used. Unfortunately, other resonant modes also may be excited in the device.

Dielectric TM-mode resonator with improved spurious response

2014 20th International Conference on Microwaves, Radar and Wireless Communications (MIKON), 2014
Modern communications systems require filters with compact resonators. Dielectric TM-mode resonators are used to shrink filter size but they usually have worse spurious response when compared to traditional metallic combline filters. Dielectric TM mode resonator with improved spurious response is presented in the article.

Step-by-step resonant cavity perturbation with spurious mode filtering

2017 IEEE MTT-S International Conference on Numerical Electromagnetic and Multiphysics Modeling and Optimization for RF, Microwave, and Terahertz Applications (NEMO), 2017
In this study, an electromagnetic resonant cavity problem is analyzed by using the step-by-step perturbation method where nodal finite element method is used for obtaining the initial solutions. For the tasks such as optimization, fine tuning and parametric history extraction, step-by-step perturbation method has a very low computational cost compared ...

Spurious Modes in Coaxial Transmission Line Filters

Proceedings of the IRE, 1950
Coaxial transmission line filters in which the shunt reactive elements are conducting rods inserted between the inner and outer conductors of the series coaxial transmission line may be analyzed by the use of well-known transmission line equations if only the TEM mode propagates.

Spurious mode suppression via apodization for 1 GHz AlN Contour-Mode Resonators

2012 IEEE International Frequency Control Symposium Proceedings, 2012
This paper reports, for the first time, on the application of apodization techniques to 1 GHz MEMS AlN Contour-Mode Resonators (CMRs [1]) to efficiently suppress spurious modes in close proximity of the main mechanical resonance. This concept has been applied with excellent results to a variety of one port resonators formed by patterned top electrodes ...

Harnessing Mode Conversion for Spurious Mode Suppression in AlN Laterally Vibrating Resonators

Journal of Microelectromechanical Systems, 2016
This paper reports on a spurious mode suppression technique for S0 mode aluminum nitride (AlN) laterally vibrating resonators. The technique utilizes a notch in the resonator body to convert spurious asymmetrical (A0) modes into the intended S0 mode vibration.

Eradication of asymmetric spurious modes in AlN MEMS resonators using mode conversion

2016 IEEE 29th International Conference on Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS), 2016
This papers reports on a spurious mode suppression technique that converts the asymmetrical (A0) mode to the intended symmetrical (S0) mode vibrations by installing a notch in aluminum nitride (AlN) laterally vibrating resonators. The technique has been experimentally validated to simultaneously eradicate the A0 spurious mode and enhance the S0 mode ...

Non-reciprocal waveguide grating with blocked spurious output mode

2008 24th Biennial Symposium on Communications, 2008
A non-reciprocal waveguide grating is one in which the modal coupling strength is not equal in both directions, in stark opposition to the case of the standard index grating, which is necessarily reciprocal. In all previous designs of non-reciprocal gratings, the desired coupling mode is accompanied by a spurious non-coupling mode, which is detrimental

Development of optimized interpolation schemes with spurious modes minimization

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, 2015
SummaryThis work constitutes a fraction of a more extensive effort, which ultimate objective is the development of advanced aeroacoustics hybrid methods. Within this framework, we here focus on the interpolation step, on which generally rely all coupling processes that link altogether the various stages constituting any given hybrid method.
