Apodization technique for spurious mode suppression in AlN contour-mode resonators

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2014
Abstract This paper reports on the application of apodization techniques to 900 MHz–1 GHz MEMS AlN Contour-Mode Resonators (CMRs [1] , [2] , [3] , [4] , [5] , [6] ) to efficiently suppress spurious modes in close proximity of the main mechanical resonance.

Spurious free D.L. TE mode band pass filter

1994 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest (Cat. No.94CH3389-4), 2002
A direct coupled dielectric loaded bandpass filter is designed in a rectangular waveguide configuration using TE/sub 10/ mode with a spurious free response up to twice the operating frequency. The filter has no tuning screws and is small in size. Theoretical design of the filter is supported by the experimental results.

Spurious modes caused by absorbing boundary conditions

IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium. 1998 Digest. Antennas: Gateways to the Global Network. Held in conjunction with: USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting (Cat. No.98CH36194), 2002
Spurious modes can occur in the analysis of radiating structures, if absorbing boundary conditions (ABCs) are used. They can be put down to complex eigensolutions of the enclosed region, of which the wavenumbers are computed for ABCs of different order. The occurrence of spurious solutions is shown for a single microstrip line, analyzed with the method

Spurious modes of electromagnetic vector potential finite elements

International Magnetics Conference, 1989
The mode spectra of individual electromagnetic vector potential finite elements are studied in detail. Theoretical spectra are deduced from the general properties of vector fields and the specific shape functions used in particular elements. Results are compared with spectra calculated using standard isoparametric tetrahedron and hexahedron elements ...

The measurement of spurious modes in over-moded waveguides

Proceedings of the IEE - Part B: Electronic and Communication Engineering, 1959
A simple method is described for measuring the fraction of power in spurious modes generated by a transducer in the presence of the main mode. This method is applicable when the energy in the spurious mode is small and its guide wavelength is different from that of the main mode. Briefly it involves measuring the input standing-wave ratio as a function

Waveguide Bend Spurious Mode Program (Computer Program Descriptions)

IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 1977
To calculate the magnitude and phase of propagating modes in H-plane waveguide bends using annular modal analysis. This program can be used for the design of waveguide bends used in high powered multimode microwave systems where it is necessary to suppress spurious mode generation.

4E-3 Spurious Mode Suppression in BAW Resonators

2006 IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium, 2006
Designing bulk acoustic wave resonators for RF filter applications is governed by the need for a high quality factor (Q-value), a large piezoelectric coupling and the purity of the main resonance. The most powerful method to suppress spurious modes is terminating the edges of the resonators by a specific border region with a different eigenresonance ...

Effects of spurious modes in resonant cavities

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1993
General theory of two reactively coupled interacting resonant modes is presented in terms of normalized equivalent circuit parameters. For the first time analytical equations are derived that explain the effects on the mode frequencies, Q factors and couplings as a function of detuning for two coupled resonant modes.

Elimination of spurious modes in finite element analysis

Journal of Computational Physics, 1984
Causes of the spurious (non-physical) modes appearance are looked for when working with finite difference or finite element methods in eigenvalue problems. An analogy is drawn between electromagnetic wave propagation and acoustic wave propagation in liquids to show that the spurious modes encountered in both cases are due to fundamentally the same ...

Design of spurious mode-free elliptical ring resonators

Microsystem Technologies, 2016
Spurious modes suppression to retain the purity of the main resonance in lateral-extensional contour modes is one of the most important requirements for commercializing vibrating RF MEMS resonators. This issue becomes much more critical for ring-shaped micromechanical resonators that are normally susceptible to both out-of-plane flexural modes and in ...
