Glancing-Angle Deposition of Nanostructures on an Implant Material Surface
Cell-compatible and antibacterial surfaces are needed for implants, which frequently have complex and rough surfaces. Bio-inspired columnar nanostructures can be grown on flat substrates; however, the application of these nanostructures on clinically ...

Application of the solid lubricant molybdenum disulfide by sputtering [PDF]
Molybdenum disulfide lubricant film is deposited on two substrates, niobium and nickel-chromium alloys, by means of physical direct-current sputtering. The sputtering system uses a three-electrode /triode/ geometry - a thermionic cathode, an anode, and ...

Atomic layer etching of SiO2 with Ar and CHF 3 plasmas: A self-limiting process for aspect ratio independent etching [PDF]
With ever increasing demands on device patterning to achieve smaller critical dimensions, the need for precise, controllable atomic layer etching (ALE) is steadily increasing.

This study proposes a new methodology for producing metal matrix nanocomposites in the solid state. The process involves the plasma‐assisted thermochemical treatment of metallic alloy powders. As a proof‐of‐concept, TiN nanoparticles are synthesized directly on the surface of FeTi intermetallic powder particles, enabling the development of the ...

High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Bimetallic (NiFe) and trimetallic (NiFeCr) nanoalloys (NAs) are synthesized using corresponding oxide mixtures using microwave hydrogen plasma within a few milliseconds. The process simultaneously 1) reduces metal oxides to metals; 2) downsizes the particles from micrometers to nanometers; and 3) blends the metals to form NAs.

The separation of Helium gas from natural gas is challenging but highly important. MIL‐116(Ga), a “non‐porous” metal–organic framework is used as a molecular sieve to separate He from CH4. Druse‐like MIL‐116(Ga) particles are integrated into polysulfone mixed matrix membranes.

Indium Tin Oxide Thin-Film Thermocouple Probe Based on Sapphire Microrod
Indium tin oxide (ITO) thin-film thermocouples monitor the temperature of hot section components in gas turbines. As an in situ measuring technology, the main challenge of a thin-film thermocouple is its installation on complex geometric surfaces.
