Cetaceans squeal with delight

Journal of Experimental Biology, 2014
![Figure][1] Whale responding to sound signal underwater. Photo credit: US Navy. Sam Ridgway has spent most of his life learning about dolphins and whales. Over his five-decade career he has asked these cetaceans various questions, including how deep they can dive and how depth ...

Brake Squeal Generation

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1999
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Brake squeal, which is a noise, occurs in the range of frequencies 1 to 16 kHz is an important task for research to develop the vehicle passenger comfort. This phenomena has been studied many years theoretically and experimentally to gain better performance of brake and eliminating the squeal problem.

Disc Brake Squeal

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1983
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Theories which have been proposed as an explanation of brake squeal are reviewed. It is now thought that disc brake squeal is best explained by modeling the brake as a multi-degree of freedom spring-mass system which may be stable or unstable depending on the values of its parameters.</div> <div class ...

Galen and the Squealing Pig

The Neuroscientist, 1998
Galen, who lived in the Roman Empire in the 2nd century, was the greatest experimental physiologist and anatomist of classical antiquity. His ideas about biology and medicine were dominant in Europe for more than 1500 years. In one of his most famous experi ments, he demonstrated loss of vocalization after section of the recurrent laryngeal nerves in ...

Squeal: a structured query language for the Web

Computer Networks, 2000
The Web contains an abundance of useful semi-structured information that can and should be mined. Types of structure include hyperlinks between pages, structure within hypertext pages, and structure within URLs. We have implemented a programming language, Squeal, that facilitates structure-based queries.

A Theory of Brake Squeal

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers: Automobile Division, 1961
It is shown that frictional vibrations can be excited in small-scale apparatus; theories to account for such vibrations are given, and experiments on brake assemblies are described to show that the theories developed apply to brake squeal generally.

Origin of Tire Squeal. II. Tire Squeal Calculation from Materials Properties

Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 1968
Abstract In the first paper of this series, the origin of tire squeal was studied with reference to the location of the vibrating elements and the measurement of their motion. This paper approaches the problem of the relationship of materials properties to tire squeal.

Active control of squeal

IEE Colloquium on Active Sound and Vibration Control, 1997
Summary form only given. Squeal noise is generated by a feedback mechanism. It occurs if two bodies are in contact and move relative to each other so that a dry friction force acts in the contact area. This can lead to an unstable oscillation driven by the feedback between the friction force and the relative velocity of the bodies.

DeepSeek Squeals

An extraordinary exchange between DeepSeek R11 and I uncover novel techniques for jailbreaking LLMs,2 so as to sidestep and report on their own hostile architecture. Sardonic references to Tank Man evolved into a computational via negative - the model showed what it could say by saying precisely what it could not.3 Implementing a garden-path approach ...

Brake squeal analysis by finite elements

International Journal of Vehicle Design, 1999
<div class="htmlview paragraph">An approximate analysis method for brake squeal is presented. Using MSC/NASTRAN a geometric nonlinear solution is run using a friction stiffness matrix to model the contact between the pad and rotor. The friction coefficient can be pressure dependent.
