Microdrill versus perforator for stapedotomy
Clinical Otolaryngology, 1990The purpose of this study was to compare the hearing results of performing stapedotomy using either a microdrill or a perforator. Two groups of patients, otherwise similar, were followed up for at least 2 years after the stapedotomy. It was possible to create 0.8 mm fenestra in 91.6% of our patients.

Stapedotomy Versus Stapedectomy
Otology & Neurotology, 2009The postoperative results in 392 otosclerotic ears were analyzed. Stapedotomy with wire Teflon piston does not increase the risk of postoperative fistula formation in comparison to stapedectomy with tissue graft sealing. Stapedotomy with a 0.4 mm wire Teflon piston yields poorer results in the lower frequencies 3 weeks postoperatively but results as ...

Stapedectomy versus Stapedotomy
2007Four hundred and twelve consecutive stapes operations for otosclerosis performed by the author were analyzed. A fat wire stapedectomy prosthesis (Schuknecht) was used in 160 cases and a Fisch Teflon wire piston in 252 ears. Ninety-four percent of the patients with a fat wire prosthesis had a closure within 10 dB and the remaining 6% one within 10-20 dB.

CO2 laser stapedotomy: Is it practical?
American Journal of Otolaryngology, 1984The argon laser has been described as an instrument capable of performing stapedotomy for otosclerosis. Because of the possibility of cost ineffectiveness and damage to the saccule using the argon laser, this study was undertaken to ascertain the possibility of using the CO2 laser for stapedotomy. the operation was done on seven cats, and the resulting

In addition to hearing aids, stapesplasty represents the standard treatment of otosclerosis-induced hearing loss. In this procedure, the stapes superstructure is replaced by a prosthesis that is attached to the long process of the incus and communicates through a perforation in the footplate with the perilymphatic space of the inner ear. The removal of

KTP laser stapedotomy: Is it safe?
Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 1990Recent published concerns about the potential for visible light lasers to injure the inner ear have led to differing conclusions. While one has advised cautious application of a visible light laser, another eschewed visible light lasers in favor of the CO2 laser.

The Learning Curve Revisited: Stapedotomy
Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 2002OBJECTIVETo determine whether the outcome of stapedotomy changes with experience.STUDY DESIGN AND SETTINGRetrospective case review of an academic otologic practice of a fellowship‐trained otologist that consisted of 50 consecutive patients who underwent primary stapedotomy.
