Phage Transduction of Staphylococcus aureus
2023Bacteriophage transduction is the major mechanism of horizontal gene transfer (HGT) among many bacteria. In Staphylococcus aureus, the phage-mediated acquisition of mobile genetic elements (MGEs) that encode virulence and antibiotic resistance genes largely contribute to its evolutionary adaptation and genetic plasticity.

The structure of some staphylococcus and pseudomonas phages
Journal of Ultrastructure Research, 1963The study of the ultrastructure of phages is of value both in itself and as a taxonomic aid. The groups examined here have received little previous attention, but the phages in them are of particular interest both structurally and taxonomically. The Pseudomonas phages show a great variety of forms, some of which closely resemble two coliphages.

Phage typing of Staphylococcus intermedius
Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1991Staphylococcus intermedius, a coagulase-positive staphylococcal species, is a common canine pathogen and a rare human wound pathogen. A total of 145 strains of S. intermedius (ATCC 29663, 4 reference strains, 4 human isolates, 44 canine infection isolates, and 92 isolates from canine gingiva) were screened for lysogenic phage by a modified Fisk method.

Peculiarities of Staphylococcus aureus phages and their possible application in phage therapy
Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2019Bacteriophage has become an attractive alternative for the treatment of antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. For the success of phage therapy, phage host range is an important criterion when considering a candidate phage. Most reviews of S. aureus (SA) phages have focused on their impact on host evolution, especially their contribution to the ...

Phages for treatment of Staphylococcus aureus infection
2023Combating multi-drug resistant bacterial infections should be a universal urgency. The gram- positive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) bacteria are generally harmless; healthy people frequently have them on their skin and nose. These bacteria, for the most part, produce no difficulties or only minor skin diseases.

Phage typing and phage induction in carrier and invasive Staphylococcus epidermidis isolates
Journal of Hospital Infection, 1991Fifty-nine Staphylococcus epidermidis isolates (30 carrier and 29 invasive) were phage typed using the phage set developed by Pulverer. Poor results were obtained as only 24% of the invasive and 27% of the carrier isolates were typable, with no differences between these percentages (P greater than 0.05).

Inactivation of the Phages ofStaphylococcus Aureusby Hydroxylamine
International Journal of Radiation Biology and Related Studies in Physics, Chemistry and Medicine, 1968SummaryThe inactivating action of hydroxylamine was studied with representatives of several serological groups of Staphylococcus aureus. It has been found that sensitivity of these phages depends to some extent on the serological group of the phage. For serological group A, however, distinct differences in sensitivity to hydroxylamine have been found ...

Characterization of the novel temperate Staphylococcus haemolyticus phage IME1365_01
Archives of Virology, 2023The presence of a novel functional prophage, IME1365_01, was predicted from bacterial high-throughput sequencing data and then successfully induced from Staphylococcus haemolyticus by mitomycin C treatment. Transmission electron microscopy showed that phage IME1365_01 has an icosahedral head (43 nm in diameter) and a long tail (172 nm long). This phage

Development of a phage typing system for Staphylococcus hyicus
Research in Microbiology, 1993Bacteriophages were released by 98% of 100 Staphylococcus hyicus strains studied after treatment with mitomycin C. Twenty-three phages with different lytic spectra were included in a phage typing system and used for typing S. hyicus. On a test-set of 100 epidemiologically unrelated S.

Microencapsulation of a Staphylococcus phage for concentration and long-term storage
Food Microbiology, 2018In an effort to reduce food safety risks, virulent phages are investigated as antibacterial agents for the control of foodborne pathogens. The aim of this study was to evaluate microencapsulation (ME) as a tool to concentrate and store staphylococcal bacteriophages.
