Galactic kinematics and dynamics from Radial Velocity Experiment stars [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2014
We analyse the kinematics of ˜400 000 stars that lie within ˜2 kpc of the Sun and have spectra measured in the Radial Velocity Experiment. We decompose the sample into hot and cold dwarfs, red-clump and non-clump giants. The kinematics of the clump giants are consistent with being identical with those of the giants as a whole.

Kinematics and dynamics of Gaia red clump stars [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2020
In this study, we analyse the kinematics and dynamics of a homogeneous sample of red clump stars, selected from the second Gaia data release catalogue in the direction of the Galactic poles, at five different positions in the plane. The level of completeness of the sample at heights between 0.6 and 3.5 kpc was asserted through a comparison with the 2 ...

The SAMI Galaxy Survey: Kinematics of Stars and Gas in Brightest Group Galaxies—The Role of Group Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2021
Abstract We study the stellar and gas kinematics of the brightest group galaxies (BGGs) in dynamically relaxed and unrelaxed galaxy groups for a sample of 154 galaxies in the SAMI galaxy survey. We characterize the dynamical state of the groups using the luminosity gap between the two most luminous galaxies and the BGG offset from the ...

Dynamical evolution of star-forming regions – II. Basic kinematics [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2016
We follow the dynamical evolution of young star-forming regions with a wide range of initial conditions and examine how the radial velocity dispersion, $σ$, evolves over time. We compare this velocity dispersion to the theoretically expected value for the velocity dispersion if a region were in virial equilibrium, $σ_{\rm vir}$ and thus assess the ...

Kinematical fingerprints of star cluster early dynamical evolution [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society: Letters, 2014
Abstract We study the effects of the external tidal field on the violent relaxation phase of star clusters dynamical evolution, with particular attention to the kinematical properties of the equilibrium configurations emerging at the end of this phase.

Kinematics and Dynamics of Multiphase Outflows in Simulations of the Star-forming Galactic Interstellar Medium [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2020
Abstract Galactic outflows produced by stellar feedback are known to be multiphase in nature. Observations and simulations indicate that the material within several kiloparsecs of galactic disk midplanes consists of warm clouds embedded within a hot wind.

Kinematics of planet-host stars and their relation to dynamical streams in the solar neighbourhood [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2006
We present a detailed study on the kinematics of metal-rich stars with and without planets, and their relation with the Hyades, Sirius and Hercules dynamical streams in the solar neighbourhood. Accurate kinematics have been derived for all the stars belonging to the CORALIE planet search survey.

Kinematics and Dynamics of OH/IR Stars [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1993
The available kinematical data on OH/IR stars is discussed, and dynamical models for the OH/IR stars are presented.

Probing the Galactic halo with RR Lyrae stars – V. Chemistry, kinematics, and dynamically tagged groups

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2023
ABSTRACT We employ a sample of 135 873 RR Lyrae stars (RRLs) with precise photometric-metallicity and distance estimates from the newly calibrated P–ϕ31–R21–[Fe/H] and Gaia G band P–R21–[Fe/H] absolute magnitude–metallicity relations of Li et al., combined with available proper motions from Gaia EDR3, and 6955 systemic radial velocities ...
