Probing the Galactic halo with RR Lyrae stars – V. Chemistry, kinematics, and dynamically tagged groups

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2023
ABSTRACT We employ a sample of 135 873 RR Lyrae stars (RRLs) with precise photometric-metallicity and distance estimates from the newly calibrated P–ϕ31–R21–[Fe/H] and Gaia G band P–R21–[Fe/H] absolute magnitude–metallicity relations of Li et al., combined with available proper motions from Gaia EDR3, and 6955 systemic radial velocities ...

Large scale kinematics and dynamical modelling of the Milky Way nuclear star cluster [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2014
Within the central 10pc of our Galaxy lies a dense nuclear star cluster (NSC), and similar NSCs are found in most nearby galaxies. Studying the structure and kinematics of NSCs reveals the history of mass accretion of galaxy nuclei. Because the Milky Way (MW) NSC is at a distance of only 8kpc, we can spatially resolve the MWNSC on sub-pc scales.

CO Kinematics, Star Formation and Dynamical Evolution of the Lensed Starburst NGC 4102 [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1996
The circumnuclear (inner kiloparsec) regions of spiral galaxies are time-dependent systems whose morphology and dynamics can change significantly over less than a Hubble time. To develop an insight into this evolution it is important to study the fate of gas driven towards the central parts of a galaxy especially near the dynamical resonances.

Dynamical History of the Stars in Relation with Age, Kinematics, Abundances, Birthrate [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1977
A large amount of work has been devoted to correlations between kinematic properties and spectral types in order to improve our knowledge of stellar populations in our Galaxy and hence to deduce its structure and evolution. The classical results will not be repeated in the present review paper.

Kinematic model inversions of hot star recurrent DAC data – tests against dynamical CIR models [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2004
The Discrete Absorption Components (DACs) commonly observed in the ultraviolet lines of hot stars have previously been modelled by dynamical simulations of Corotating Interaction Regions (CIRs) in their line-driven stellar winds. Here we apply the kinematic DAC inversion method of Brown et al.

Galactic kinematics and dynamics from RAVE stars

open access: yes, 2013
We analyse the kinematics of ~400000 RAVE stars. We split the sample into hot and cold dwarfs, red-clump and non-clump giants. The kinematics of the clump giants are consistent with being identical with those of non-clump giants. We fit Gaussian velocity ellipsoids to the meridional-plane components of velocity of each star class and give formulae from

The star formation history of Upper Scorpius and Ophiuchus

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2022
Context. Understanding how star formation begins and propagates through molecular clouds is a fundamental but still open question. One major difficulty in addressing this question is the lack of precise 3D kinematics and age information for young stellar populations.

Natural Frequencies of Levodopa‐Induced Dyskinesia in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Abnormal involuntary movements, known as dyskinesias, are common complications of levodopa treatment in patients with Parkinson's disease and can significantly impair quality of life. The underlying pathophysiology remains unclear, and current therapeutic options are limited.
