Stealing Our Smarts: Indigenous knowledge in On-Line Learning

open access: yesSeminar.net, 2005
Tell me what you know….Knowledge  and knowing can be a very tricky thing.  Reflect on what you are fairly certain that you know. Self-certainty in human knowledge is a function of metacognition primarily.

Charged state of a spherical plasma in vacuum [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2005
The stationary state of a spherically symmetric plasma configuration is investigated in the limit of immobile ions and weak collisions. Configurations with small radii are positively charged as a significant fraction of the electron population evaporates during the equilibration process, leaving behind an electron distribution function with an energy ...

Evolving Charge Correlations in a Hybrid Model with both Hydrodynamics and Hadronic Boltzmann Descriptions

open access: yes, 2018
Correlations related to local charge conservation provide insight into the creation and evolution of up, down and strange charges in the quark-gluon plasma.

A Note on Inhomogeneous Ground States at Large Global Charge [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this note we search for the ground state, in infinite volume, of the $D=3$ Wilson-Fisher conformal $O(4)$ model, at nonzero values of the two independent charge densities $\rho_{1,2}$.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Sequential Monte Carlo Methods for Discharge Time Prognosis in Lithium-ion Batteries

open access: yesInternational Journal of Prognostics and Health Management, 2012
This paper presents the implementation of a particle-filtering-based prognostic framework that allows estimating the state-of-charge (SOC) and predicting the discharge time of energy storage devices (more specifically lithium-ion batteries). The proposed

Intelligent SOX Estimation for Automotive Battery Management Systems: State-of-the-Art Deep Learning Approaches, Open Issues, and Future Research Opportunities

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
Real-time battery SOX estimation including the state of charge (SOC), state of energy (SOE), and state of health (SOH) is the crucial evaluation indicator to assess the performance of automotive battery management systems (BMSs).

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Identifying the Charge Carriers of the Quark-Gluon Plasma

open access: yes, 2012
Charge correlations in lattice gauge calculations suggest that up, down and strange charges move independently in the QGP (quark-gluon plasma), and that the density of such charges is similar to what is expected from simple thermal arguments.

Topological Dislocations and Mixed State of Charge Density Waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We discuss the possibility of the ``mixed state'' in incommensurate charge density waves with three-dimensional order. It is shown that the mixed state can be created by applying an electric field perpendicular to the chains.
