Study on the motion characteristics of bedload sediment particles under different sediment transport intensities

open access: yesRiver
Bedload studies at the particle scale may help grasp the essence of the problem. Existing studies suffer from short filming durations, limited data volume, and a narrow range of sediment transport intensity variations.

Government-industry relations in China : a review of the art of the state [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
For those who have studied the political economy of China since the onset of urban-industrial reform in the 1980s, the state looks considerably less powerful today than it once was.

Religious Symbols and State Regulation [PDF]

open access: yesReligion and Human Rights, 2017
Abstract Religious symbols are historically significant and socially powerful. They have many forms and functions. Their legal regulation presents difficult challenges for courts, particularly international courts. This article examines how the European Court of Human Rights has approached the regulation of the regulation of religious symbols by ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Engineering a CRISPR-associated IscB system for developing miniature genome-editing tools in human cells and mouse embryos

open access: yesNature Communications
IscB, as the putative ancestor of Cas9, possesses a compact size, making it suitable for in vivo delivery. OgeuIscB is the first IscB protein known to function in eukaryotic cells but requires a complex TAM (NWRRNA).

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
