The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Physiological and molecular mechanisms of adzuki bean (Vigna angularis) responding to low light and screening of shade-adaptable varieties

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Global dimming-induced reduction in surface solar radiation threatens crop productivity, particularly for light-sensitive leguminous crops such as adzuki bean (Vigna angularis).

Plain Meaning, Precedent, and Metaphysics: Interpreting the “Point Source” Element of the Clean Water Act Offense [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This Article, the fourth in a series of five, examines the continuing struggles to define “point source” and “nonpoint source” under the Clean Water Act.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Comprehensive Analysis of Phenotypic Traits in Chinese Cabbage Using 3D Point Cloud Technology

open access: yesAgronomy
Studies on the phenotypic traits and their associations in Chinese cabbage lack precise and objective digital evaluation metrics. Traditional assessment methods often rely on subjective evaluations and experience, compromising accuracy and reliability ...

State Regulation of Radioactive Materials [PDF]

open access: yesPublic Health Reports (1896-1970), 1964
W ITH minor exceptions, the genesis of interest by States in controlling radioactive materials stemmed from the enactment of Public Law 86-373 by Congress in 1959. This added section 274 to the Atomic Energy Act, providing for transfer from the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission to States of regulatory responsibility and authority over byproduct and source ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Optimizing root spatial distribution during the flower-boll stage can reduce yield losses from square stage drought in cotton

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background Root spatial distribution, an important root function phenotype, is closely related to drought tolerance. Drought is known to hinder cotton development, but, the effects of drought at the square stage on the spatial distribution ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
