Temperature-dependence of the static contact angle: A transition state theory approach [PDF]
The temperature dependence of the static contact angle could a priori be predicted by using surface tension partitioning. An original model based on the transition state theory is also introduced. This model considers thermocapillary fluctuations on the droplet surface near the triple line and the self-affine pinning of this triple line against a solid

An influence of shroud design parameters on the static stresses of blade assemblies [PDF]
In this study, the structural analysis of the blade assemblies was carried out using the finite element method to determine the influence of design parameters of shroud couplings on the static stresses of turbine rotor blades with zigzag and slant shroud

Is contact angle a cause or an effect? – A cautionary tale [PDF]
The most influential parameter on the behavior of two-component flow in porous media is “wettability”. When wettability is being characterized, the most frequently used parameter is the “contact angle”.

Contact angle hysteresis and pinning at periodic defects in statics [PDF]
This article deals with the theoretical prediction of the wetting hysteresis on nonideal solid surfaces in terms of the surface heterogeneity parameters. The spatially periodical chemical heterogeneity is considered. We propose precise definitions for both the advancing and the receding contact angles for the Wilhelmy plate geometry.

Multifunctional aluminium surfaces – Laser-structured micropatterns with ice-repellent, superhydrophobic and easy-to-clean properties [PDF]
In this work, the fabrication of multifunctional periodic microstructures on pure aluminium is presented. Three different geometries were fabricated with feature sizes ranging between 7 µm and 50 µm by using laser-based microstructuring methods.

Static Electrification by Nonwetting Liquids. Contact Charging and Contact Angles
A glass slide hydrophobized with dimethyldichlorosilane appears to be electrostatically charged when a nonwetting liquid recedes from its surface. The surface charge has negative polarity. The density of the charge which arises on retraction from water is 10 -4 C/m 2 . The half-life of the charge on the surface in air is 0.5 h.

Controlling sliding droplets with optimal contact angle distributions and a phase field model [PDF]
We consider the optimal control of a droplet on a solid by means of the static contact angle between the contact line and the solid. The droplet is described by a thermodynamically consistent phase field model from [Abels et al., Math. Mod. Meth.

Event-based contact angle measurements inside porous media using time-resolved micro-computed tomography [PDF]
Hypothesis: Capillary-dominated multiphase flow in porous materials is strongly affected by the pore walls' wettability. Recent micro-computed tomography (mCT) studies found unexpectedly wide contact angle distributions measured on static fluid ...
