Conservation laws shape dissipation

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2018
Starting from the most general formulation of stochastic thermodynamics—i.e. a thermodynamically consistent nonautonomous stochastic dynamics describing systems in contact with several reservoirs—we define a procedure to identify the conservative and the

Statistical Mechanics of Discrete Multicomponent Fragmentation

open access: yesCondensed Matter, 2020
We formulate the statistics of the discrete multicomponent fragmentation event using a methodology borrowed from statistical mechanics. We generate the ensemble of all feasible distributions that can be formed when a single integer multicomponent mass is

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Analysis of spallation based upon statistical microdamage mechanics

open access: yes, 1997
A relationship between the cumulative length of microcracks and the amplitude and duration of tensile impulse in spallation was established based on the application of statistical microdamage mechanics, which included a statistical formulation and ...

Gears in chemical reaction networks for optimizing energy transduction efficiency

open access: yesNature Communications
Similarly to gear systems in vehicles, most chemical reaction networks (CRNs) involved in energy transduction have at their disposal multiple transduction pathways, each characterized by distinct efficiencies. We conceptualize these pathways as ‘chemical

Stochastic thermodynamics of rapidly driven systems

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2015
We present the stochastic thermodynamics analysis of an open quantum system weakly coupled to multiple reservoirs and driven by a rapidly oscillating external field.

Dynamical Temperature from the Phase Space Trajectory

open access: yesHungarian Journal of Industry and Chemistry, 2017
In classical statistical mechanics the trajectory in phase space represents the propagation of a classical Hamiltonian system. While trajectories play a key role in chaotic system theory, exploitation of a single trajectory has yet to be considered. This

Geometrization of statistical mechanics

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 1999
Classical and quantum statistical mechanics are cast here in the language of projective geometry to provide a unified geometrical framework for statistical physics. After reviewing the Hilbert space formulation of classical statistical thermodynamics, we introduce projective geometry as a basis for analysing probabilistic aspects of statistical physics.

Statistical Mechanics of Steiner Trees [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2008
The Minimum Weight Steiner Tree (MST) is an important combinatorial optimization problem over networks that has applications in a wide range of fields. Here we discuss a general technique to translate the imposed global connectivity constrain into many local ones that can be analyzed with cavity equation techniques.
