Phase fluctuations in the ABC model

open access: yes, 2011
We analyze the fluctuations of the steady state profiles in the modulated phase of the ABC model. For a system of $L$ sites, the steady state profiles move on a microscopic time scale of order $L^3$.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Gibbs phenomenon and the emergence of the steady-state in quantum transport

open access: yes, 2019
Simulations are increasingly employing explicit reservoirs - internal, finite regions - to drive electronic or particle transport. This naturally occurs in simulations of transport via ultracold atomic gases.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Unconventional abdominal uses of FIESTA (CISS) sequence

open access: yesIndian Journal of Radiology and Imaging, 2013
The ability to provide cross-sectional imaging, combined with a lack of ionizing radiation has made magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of abdomen popular. We report four interesting cases: Midgut malrotation with volvulus, sigmoid volvulus, biliary rupture

Magnetocentrifugal Winds in 3D: Nonaxisymmetric Steady State

open access: yes, 2006
Outflows can be loaded and accelerated to high speeds along rapidly rotating, open magnetic field lines by centrifugal forces. Whether such magnetocentrifugally driven winds are stable is a longstanding theoretical problem.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

A Steady State ANN Model for the Operational Characteristics of a Variable Speed (VS) Direct Expansion (DX) Air Conditioning (A/C) System

open access: yesZhileng xuebao, 2017
In this study, an ANN model for an experimental VS DX A/C system was developed to predict its outputs with an assumption that the indoor air states will not influence the relative value of system outputs. Steady state experiments under a fixed indoor air
