Steam sterilization does not require saturated steam

Journal of Hospital Infection, 2017
The most commonly applied method to sterilize re-usable medical devices in hospitals is steam sterilization. The essential conditions for steam sterilization are derived from sterilization in water. Microbiological experiments in aqueous solutions have been used to calculate various time–temperature combinations to kill viable micro-organisms [1].

The Steam Age—Evolution of Steam Engines and the 1st Steam Locomotive

2021
Britons were world pioneers of the Steam Age. Thomas Savery built the first operational steam pump with no moving parts. Thomas Newcomen designed an atmospheric steam pump. James Watt was proposed by some commentators to be the “Father of the Industrial Revolution” because he designed super-efficient beam, rotary, and double acting steam engines for a ...

Solar Steam Nanobubbles

ACS Nano, 2013
Silica-gold core-shell nanoparticles that are immersed in water act as efficient nanoscale generators of steam when illuminated with sunlight. In their paper in this issue of ACS Nano, Halas, Nordlander, and co-workers demonstrate this intriguing phenomenon that results from the nucleation of steam at the surface of individual nanoparticles that are ...
