Protective Effect of Isoorientin on Oleic Acid-Induced Oxidative Damage and Steatosis in Rat Liver Cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2022
The harm of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease to human health is increasing, which calls for urgent prevention and treatment of the disease. Isoorientin is an effective ingredient of Chinese herbal medicine with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects ...

Synergistic interaction of fatty acids and oxysterols impairs mitochondrial function and limits liver adaptation during nafld progression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The complete mechanism accounting for the progression from simple steatosis to steatohepatitis in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has not been elucidated.

Mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation is stimulated by red light irradiation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Light at different wavelengths has distinct effects on keratinocyte viability and metabolism. UVA light abrogates metabolic fluxes. Blue and green light have no effect on metabolic fluxes, while red light enhanced oxidative phosphorylation by promoting fatty acid oxidation. Keratinocytes are the primary constituents of sunlight‐exposed epidermis.

Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD): The Search for a Cure [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Medical Journal, 2016
An alarming rise of obesity and, along with it, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), has been observed in the USA and the rest of the world. NAFLD, the most common cause of chronic liver disease in many developed countries, is not always a benign ...

The role of fibroblast growth factors in cell and cancer metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling regulates crucial signaling cascades that promote cell proliferation, survival, and metabolism. Therefore, FGFs and their receptors are often dysregulated in human diseases, including cancer, to sustain proliferation and rewire metabolism.

Oxidative stress: new insights on the association of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and atherosclerosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) represents the most common and emerging chronic liver disease worldwide. It includes a wide spectrum of liver diseases ranging from simple fatty liver to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), which may progress ...

GS-0976 Reduces Hepatic Steatosis and Fibrosis Markers in Patients With Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.

open access: yesGastroenterology, 2018
BACKGROUND & AIMS De novo lipogenesis is increased in livers of patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Acetyl-coenzyme carboxylase catalyzes the rate-limiting step in this process. We evaluated the safety and efficacy of GS-0976, an inhibitor

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

The International Liver Congress (ILC) 2016: Rifaximin Use in Cirrhosis-Related Hepatological Disorders and New Perspectives [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Medical Journal Hepatology, 2016
Rifaximin (RFX)-α is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that targets commensal gut bacteria and reduces the excess ammonia produced by the gut bacteria of patients with cirrhosis.
