miRNA‐29 regulates epidermal and mesenchymal functions in skin repair

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
miRNA‐29 inhibits cell‐to‐cell and cell‐to‐matrix adhesion by silencing mRNA targets. Adhesion is controlled by complex interactions between many types of molecules coded by mRNAs. This is crucial for keeping together the layers of the skin and for regenerating the skin after wounding.

Interaction vesicles as emerging mediators of host‐pathogen molecular crosstalk and their implications for infection dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interaction extracellular vesicles (iEVs) are hybrid vesicles formed through host‐pathogen communication. They facilitate immune evasion, transfer pathogens' molecules, increase host cell uptake, and enhance virulence. This Perspective article illustrates the multifunctional roles of iEVs and highlights their emerging relevance in infection dynamics ...

Spectral Classification of the 30 Doradus Stellar Populations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 1997
An optical spectral classification study of 106 OB stars within the 30 Doradus Nebula has sharpened the description of the spatial and temporal structures among the associated clusters. Five distinct stellar groups are recognized: (1) the central early-O (Carina phase) concentration, which includes Radcliffe 136 (R136); (2) a younger (Orion phase ...

Autophagy in cancer and protein conformational disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Autophagy plays a crucial role in numerous biological processes, including protein and organelle quality control, development, immunity, and metabolism. Hence, dysregulation or mutations in autophagy‐related genes have been implicated in a wide range of human diseases.

Classification of Stars from Redshifted Stellar Spectra utilizing Machine Learning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The classification of stellar spectra is a fundamental task in stellar astrophysics. There have been many explorations into the automated classification of stellar spectra but few that involve the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). Stellar spectra from the

USmorph: An Updated Framework of Automatic Classification of Galaxy Morphologies and Its Application to Galaxies in the COSMOS Field

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
Morphological classification conveys abundant information on the formation, evolution, and environment of galaxies. In this work, we refine a two-step galaxy morphological classification framework ( USmorph ), which employs a combination of unsupervised ...

A stepwise emergence of evolution in the RNA world

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
How did biological evolution emerge from chemical reactions? This perspective proposes a gradual scenario of self‐organization among RNA molecules, where catalytic feedback on random mixtures plays the central role. Short oligomers cross‐ligate, and self‐assembly enables heritable variations. An event of template‐externalization marks the transition to

Spectral classification with the International Ultraviolet Explorer: An atlas of B-type spectra [PDF]

open access: yes
New criteria for the spectral classification of B stars in the ultraviolet show that photospheric absorption lines in the 1200-1900A wavelength region can be used to classify the spectra of B-type dwarfs, subgiants, and giants on a 2-D system consistent ...

MHD flows at astropauses and in astrotails

open access: yes, 2014
The geometrical shapes and the physical properties of stellar wind -- interstellar medium interaction regions form an important stage for studying stellar winds and their embedded magnetic fields as well as cosmic ray modulation. Our goal is to provide a

Red Stellar Populations and Dust Extinction toward W3

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We explore red stellar populations toward the W3 giant molecular cloud through the use of optical-to-infrared (IR) photometry and Gaia DR 3 data, simultaneously characterizing stellar content and properties of dust in the molecular medium.
