Growing massive black holes through supercritical accretion of stellar-mass seeds [PDF]
The rapid assembly of the massive black holes that power the luminous quasars observed at z ˜ 6-7 remains a puzzle. Various direct collapse models have been proposed to head-start black hole growth from initial seeds with masses ˜105 M⊙, which can then ...

A giant insulator to metal transition and emergent superparamagnetism are revealed by nanoparticle exsolution in non‐stoichiometric titanate perovskite thin films. By combining transport, synchrotron spectroscopy, and first‐principles calculations, this work reveals how defect reconfiguration and lattice reconstruction fundamentally reshape electronic ...

Covariance Spectrum of MAXI J1820+070: On the Nature of the Comptonizing Flow
We present an analysis of the covariance spectrum of the black hole X-ray binary MAXI J1820+070 during its hard state. For the first time, we extend coherence and covariance studies into the hard X-ray band up to ∼150 keV.

Unveiling stellar-mass black holes in globular clusters with dynamical models.
The recent discovery of a gravitational wave produced by two merging stellar-mass black holes started a search for environments where two stellar mass black holes can become a binary and merge.

Conductive Hydrogels for Exogenous Sensing and Cell Fate Control
We engineer electrically conductive hydrogels by combining sulfated glycosaminoglycans with semiconducting polymers. These hydrogels bind bioactive proteins, including growth factors, whose release or retention can be modulated by low‐voltage stimulation. The hydrogels are also integrated as 3D channels in organic electrochemical transistors as part of

IGR J17091–3624 is a black hole X-ray binary (BHXB), often referred to as the “twin” of GRS 1915+105 because it is the only other known BHXB that can show exotic “heartbeat”-like variability that is highly structured and repeated.

ABSTRACT Accurately knowing the frontier orbital energies of the structurally disordered small‐molecule organic semiconductors that are used in optoelectronic devices such as organic light‐emitting diodes is required to rationally improve their performance. Here, we show that these energies can be deduced with a large accuracy from the peak energies of

The Redshift Evolution of the M •–M ⋆ Relation for JWST’s Supermassive Black Holes at z > 4
JWST has detected many overmassive galactic systems at z > 4, where the mass of the black hole, M _• , is 10–100 times larger than expected from local relations, given the host’s stellar mass, M _⋆ .

Tidal disruption flares from stars on eccentric orbits
We study tidal disruption and subsequent mass fallback for stars approaching supermassive black holes on bound orbits, by performing three dimensional Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics simulations with a pseudo-Newtonian potential.

Lithium synthesis around stellar mass black holes
We present a study of nucleosynthesis of light elements in the accretion disk of stellar mass black holes. The amount of both stable isotopes of lithium produced is sizeable for a host of values of black hole mass, disk viscosity and accretion rate.
