Refining the Stellar Parameters of τ Ceti: a Pole-on Solar Analog
To accurately characterize the planets a star may be hosting, stellar parameters must first be well determined. τ Ceti is a nearby solar analog and often a target for exoplanet searches.

Rotation of planet-harbouring stars [PDF]
The rotation rate of a star has important implications for the detectability, characterisation and stability of any planets that may be orbiting it. This chapter gives a brief overview of stellar rotation before describing the methods used to measure the rotation periods of planet host stars, the factors affecting the evolution of a star's rotation ...

This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Constraining Stellar Rotation at the ZAMS
As Solar-type stars approach the main sequence, they contract and spin more rapidly; once they reach the main sequence, they stop contracting and their spin speed decreases. This spin-down is thought to be caused by angular momentum lost via stellar winds, but there are currently limited constraints on model behavior at this critical age.

The difference in age of the two counter-rotating stellar disks of the spiral galaxy NGC 4138 [PDF]
The Sa spiral NGC 4138 is known to host two counter-rotating stellar disks, with the ionized gas co-rotating with one of them. We measured the kinematics and properties of the two counter-rotating stellar populations to constrain their formation scenario. A spectroscopic decomposition of the observed major-axis spectrum was performed to disentangle the

Evaluation of synaptotagmin‐1 action models by all‐atom molecular dynamics simulations
We used molecular dynamics simulations to test models proposing that synaptotagmin‐1 facilitates membrane fusion by perturbing lipid bilayers, inducing membrane curvature and/or bridging membranes. The simulations show that synaptotagmin‐1 C2‐domains placed near the site of fusion hinder the ability of SNARE complexes to bring the membranes together ...

A study of stellar population of intermediate-age globular cluster NGC 2249
The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) star cluster NGC 2249 has been found to exhibit an extended main-sequence turn-off (eMSTO) in the color-magnitude diagram (CMD) derived from the data of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST).

Constraints on Magnetic Braking from the G8 Dwarf Stars 61 UMa and τ Cet
During the first half of their main-sequence lifetimes, stars rapidly lose angular momentum to their magnetized winds, a process known as magnetic braking.

Starspot Activity without Pulsation in the Binary System KIC 5444392 Revisited
We revisited the short-period (∼1.5 days) binary system KIC 5444392, which shows quasi-period modulated light variations. Previous studies indicated that these variations might be caused by stellar pulsations.
