The Evolution of Stellar X-Ray Activity and Angular Momentum as Seen by eROSITA, TESS, and Gaia

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We have assembled a sample of ∼8200 stars with spectral types F5V–M5V, all having directly measured X-ray luminosities from eROSITA and rotation periods from TESS and having empirically estimated ages via their membership in stellar clusters and groups ...

Signature of non-isotropic distribution of stellar rotation inclination angles in the Praesepe cluster [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The distribution of the stellar rotation axes of 113 main sequence stars in the open cluster Praesepe are examined by using current photometric rotation periods, spectroscopic rotation velocities, and estimated stellar radii.

A nucleotide‐independent, pan‐RAS‐targeted DARPin elicits anti‐tumor activity in a multimodal manner

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We report a Designed Ankyrin Repeat Protein that binds and inhibits RAS proteins, which serve as central cell signaling hubs and are essential for the progression of many cancers. Its unique feature is that it does not discriminate between different RAS isoforms or mutations and is capable of binding to RAS in both its active (GTP‐bound) and inactive ...

The Directly Imaged Exoplanet Host Star 51 Eridani is a Gamma Doradus Pulsator

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2022
51 Eri is well known for hosting a directly imaged giant planet and for its membership to the β Pictoris moving group. Using 2 minute cadence photometry from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), we detect multiperiodic variability in 51 Eri ...

Inferring probabilistic stellar rotation periods using Gaussian processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Variability in the light curves of spotted, rotating stars is often non-sinusoidal and quasi-periodic --- spots move on the stellar surface and have finite lifetimes, causing stellar flux variations to slowly shift in phase.

BMP antagonist CHRDL2 enhances the cancer stem‐cell phenotype and increases chemotherapy resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Overexpression of CHRDL2 in colon cancer cells makes them more stem‐like and resistant to chemo‐ and radiotherapy. CHRDL2‐high cells have upregulation of the WNT pathway, genes involved in the DNA damage response (DDR) pathway and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT). This leads to quicker repair of damaged DNA and more cell migration.

Kepler main-sequence solar-like stars: surface rotation and magnetic-activity evolution

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences
While the mission’s primary goal was focused on exoplanet detection and characterization, Kepler made and continues to make extraordinary advances in stellar physics. Stellar rotation and magnetic activity are no exceptions.

Photometric magnetic-activity metrics tested with the Sun: application to Kepler M dwarfs

open access: yesJournal of Space Weather and Space Climate, 2014
The Kepler mission has been providing high-quality photometric data leading to many breakthroughs in the exoplanet search and in stellar physics. Stellar magnetic activity results from the interaction between rotation, convection, and magnetic field ...
