Heating rates in X-ray flares: From solar microflares to stellar events

Advances in Space Research, 2005
Abstract Soft X-ray solar and stellar flares appear in the coronae of solar-like stars due to abrupt release of energy accumulated in magnetic fields. To build a quantitatively correct model of a flare we need to know how much energy is released in flares of different sizes and strengths. Here we estimate and compare the energy release rate in flares

X-Ray Flares and Variability of Young Stellar Objects

1996
The most well-known “Young Stellar Objects” are the T Tauri stars, I.E., young, solar-type stars, first detected in X-rays by Einstein. With ROSAT and ASCA, the family of X-ray emitting young stars has been extended to protostars. X-ray emission is only related to surface magnetic phenomena, independently of the amount of circumstellar material ...

Charge transfer X‐rays in solar and stellar flares

Astronomische Nachrichten, 2012
AbstractMost of the energy in a solar flare, and presumably a stellar flare as well, takes the form of a power law of energetic particles. The energetic electrons produce a bremsstrahlung continuum, while the most energetic nuclei produce gamma‐rays. Nuclei around 1 MeV/AMU can produce X‐rays during and after charge transfer with neutrals.

Fast transient X-rays and gamma ray bursts—are they stellar flares?

Advances in Space Research, 1990
Short period transient X-ray emissions (FTX) have been observed from several sources in the sky and the largest single group of objects identified with such sources are active stars - flare stars and RS CVn binaries. We study the number, source and flux distribution of the fast transient X-ray sources and show that all the FTX emission can be treated ...

SEARCHING THE FAST X-RAY FLARES ON TWO γ CAS TYPE STARS HD 110432 AND HD 119682

Proceedings of XXI Young Scientists Conference “Fundamental and Applied Space Researches”
The searching for fast X-ray flares with duration from several seconds to several minutes in light curves of two γ Cas-like stars НD 110432, НD 119682 is performed.

X-ray transients and flares from active stellar systems

2008
Many X-ray flares detected to date from active cool stars were initially discovered as fast (≲ 3 hour) transients1,2,3. A survey of the HEAO A-1 Sky Survey Experiment 0.5–20 keV data for fast transients confirms the tendency for a significant fraction of such events to be associated with active stellar systems.

What can We Learn from X-ray Observations of Stellar Flares?

Physica Scripta, 1998
It is argued that x-ray observations of stellar flares are very helpful for understanding the physics of solar flares. To achieve this aim, further high-quality observations of stellar flares are urgently needed.
