Steroid hormones sulfatase inactivation extends lifespan and ameliorates age-related diseases

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Sul-2 is a steroid sulfatase in c.elegans. Here the authors show that, in the absence of sul-2 enzymatic activity, worm lifespan is increased, and that chemical inhibition ameliorates symptoms of neurodegenerative disorders in worms and mice.

RNA sequencing and lipidomics uncovers novel pathomechanisms in recessive X-linked ichthyosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2023
Recessive X-linked ichthyosis (RXLI), a genetic disorder caused by deletion or point mutations of the steroid sulfatase (STS) gene, is the second most common form of ichthyosis.

Reduced Dehydroepiandrosterone-Sulfate Levels in the Mid-Luteal Subphase of the Menstrual Cycle: Implications to Women’s Health Research

open access: yesMetabolites, 2022
The regulation of DHEA-sulfate by steroid sulfotransferase (SULT) and steryl-sulfatase (STS) enzymes is a vital process for the downstream formation of many steroid hormones. DHEA-sulfate is the most abundant steroid hormone in the human body; thus, DHEA-

The Uptake and Deconjugation of Androstenone Sulfate in the Adipose Tissue of the Boar

open access: yesAnimals, 2021
Boars express high testicular levels of sulfotransferase enzymes, and consequently, the boar taint causing compound androstenone predominantly circulates as a steroid sulfate.

Profiling Urinary Sulfate Metabolites With Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2022
The study of urinary phase II sulfate metabolites is central to understanding the role and fate of endogenous and exogenous compounds in biological systems.

X-linked ichthyosis associated with psychosis and behavioral abnormalities: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2017
Background X-linked ichthyosis is a dermatological condition caused by deficiency for the enzyme steroid sulfatase. Previously, X-linked ichthyosis/steroid sulfatase deficiency has been associated with developmental and neurological phenotypes.

In the Model Cell Lines of Moderately and Poorly Differentiated Endometrial Carcinoma, Estrogens Can Be Formed via the Sulfatase Pathway

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2021
Endometrial cancer (EC) is the most common gynecological malignancy in resource-abundant countries. The majority of EC cases are estrogen dependent but the mechanisms of estrogen biosynthesis and oxidative metabolism and estrogen action are not ...
