The Role of Sterol O-acyltransferase 1 In Obesity And In Prostate Cancer

2023
ABSTRACT The worldwide obesity prevalence has almost tripled since 1973 according to the World Health Organization. In the United States, the disease is especially prevalent, with a recorded prevalence of 41.9 percent in 2017, as reported by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

Sterol O-acyltransferase 1 deficiency improves defective insulin signaling in the brains of mice fed a high-fat diet

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2018
Insulin resistance induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) is related to metabolic diseases, and sterol O-acyltransferase 1 (SOAT1) is a key enzyme for the biosynthesis of cholesteryl ester. In the present study, wild-type (WT) mice and SOAT1-knockout (KO) mice with a C57BL6 background fed a HFD were used to explore the role of SOAT1 in the hypothalamus.

Sterol O‐acyltransferase 1 enhances cholesterol esterification via cyclic AMP‐dependent pathway in the yolk sac membrane endodermal epithelial cells

The FASEB Journal, 2017
During avian embryonic development, absorptions of nutrients is mainly responsible by endodermal epithelial cells (EECs) in the yolk sac membrane (YSM). Yolk lipids are actively absorbed in late stages of incubation. Sterol O‐acyltransferase (SOAT), regulating the cholesterol esterification with long‐chain fatty acid, is the key for lipid utilization ...
